One KEY note: Q1 Trade Value Thread is now locked and with the sweeping change to the trade forums that occurred on 4/21/21. The focus here should be solely on beer. Otherwise, it’s likely to be moderated. Thanks!

The guidelines for this are the following: Under no circumstances should cash value, offers to exchange cash for beer, offers to exchange beer for cash, offers to exchange cash for prime grade A sirloin or really anything involving cash at all be mentioned. This will lock the thread immediately and you will be shamed. If you have to use a reference, I would recommend the gold standard of RVRU (relative vanilla rye units) - aside, is VRU still a thing? By now there are prob some who don’t even know what VR is. If that’s how you’re going to talk about things maybe Average Seasonal Cantillon Units would be a better standard. Or just carry on.

Don't be vague. No one really knows if you're ISO or FT. No beer has a singular value, so asking "what can I get with X?" will result with a million answers. "What does it take to land Y?" Again please help give us an idea of what you have FT or where about you're at to give an idea of locals, etc.

The purpose of this thread is to help users out and introduce some dialogue and conversation into the merits of a particular proposed trade. It is meant to help users new and old and be a bit more dynamic than the "completed trades" section.

    Have fun with this!

I would encourage anyone who did not get an answer on the Q1, 2022 thread to post again. Cheers!

    I'll start...

I seek out Fremont Brew XXXX each year and it was released last weekend. Would TG Toppling Waters be able to snag 2 bottles, 1+? Not sure on the retail $ of the bottles, but I believe it was limited to 2 per household per day.

    Thanks

I know Fremont just released the new B6K recently. Is that the beer you're referring to, or is this part of their Black Heron line-up?

Yes. I was just using the xxxx as the thousand brew release each year, but rereading I didn’t specify 6000 after that. Thanks.

As you probably are aware, availability seems to vary year to year. Last year B5K saw good distribution and was pretty easy to find in the wild. I was able to obtain a case without much difficulty (the taphouse I bought it from was delighted to sell me as much as I wanted). However, previous years were much more difficult to find (I can only imagine what you had to give up to obtain bottles of the B3k or B4k).

So at this point it's probably too early to answer your question concerning trade value. While I would think a TGTW could possibly pull 2 bottles of b6k, I would recommend waiting a few weeks to see if the trade price drops a bit due to bottle count and good availability.

I think the retail price will likely stay at $30 a bottle this year (based on recent specialty ba beer pricing from Fremont). I haven't heard a bottle count number for the b6k this year

One last observation (my apologies if this is TMI). I confess I'm a bit worried about the availability of b6k in the PDX area this year. It seemed like the Portland distributor got an inordinate amount of the B5k last year, and pretty much every retail outlet that wanted some was able to obtain 2 or 3 cases. Given the reputation of the beer, a lot places who wouldn't normally carry the beer jumped in and bought a full allocation. As a result, the beer sat on the shelf at many stores and there were often no purchase limits. That had the effect of tying up a fair amount of money at various mom and pop stores who weren't accustomed to seeing that sort of cash tie up. I'm sure they were expecting to recoup their investment very quickly and were likely quite unhappy when that didn't pan out. As a result, it would not surprise me at all if the b6k is a lot more difficult to find in the wild this year. I suspect that a lot of places that were interested in obtaining the B5k last year aren't going to be nearly so enthusiastic this year.

Time will tell of course, but at least here in PDX I wouldn't be at all surprised if the B6k is a lot more difficult to find this year. I would assume it will start showing up around town this week.

It should probably be 1:1, I don't think you'll be able to get a plus. Even if B6K was theoretically worth cost, Toppling waters is maybe worth 2x cost at most. Cost for secondary trades are almost impossible to close.

$4$ it would be 1+:1, if B6K is $30 per bottle haven’t seen what it cost at the brewery, TG TW was $50/bottle.

If Limited, prices above and limits were 2 per household per day on B6K and 2 total for TG. So, maybe someone walked away with more than two. I’ll see how it shakes out in the retail market as well thanks to @John_M

I’m not trying to do a cost/secondary trade. Maybe I’m thinking of it too simply, but seems pretty straightforward to me.

Plus, I’m not too worried about getting a hold of a bottle or two. Haven’t had an issue in the past and if I need to offer/add other things (Aaron B/C, VSOR, etc.) I will.

Didn't realize TG TW was 50, was just assuming it was 30. You can maybe get some cans or something on their side but TG TW is pretty close to it's retail cost in value

There are Term Oil cans sitting on the shelf at my local store. I don’t know going rate of BA Rocky Road, but the cans sit at 21-25 depending on location. I think it be easy to find someone 4$4 if that’s what you’re looking for.

    not even close

I really don't think you'd get $4$ on this. BA Rocky has closed Bubble Wrap from SP. You'll need something more limited/sought after for $4$, and I don't know if someone would want the 4-6 Term Oil cans you'd need to offer to equal it's value.

EDIT: Didn't realize Jdub was on the AC side. BA Rocky Road will get you a lot more than term oil. Maybe another TG bottle with term oil as a plus

Thanks, thinking something like Aaron B/C, BA Dorothy plus 2 other limited Hill bottles could be in the vicinity.

So I learned that Medianoche Antique: Saz is a thing and now I have to acquire one. Any idea on how much of this there was, limited nature of it, etc? Would it go 1:1 with any of these? BCBS Anni, BCBS Blanton's, Blessed b2, Coco Vibes, CW DB Stout...

Really? Well, that seems like an outlier. That's what, maybe $100 at most retail? I'm not very hip to values of whiskey - and definitely not whiskey that is shelf whiskey or at very least mostly attainable in some areas - but value can't be much higher, right?
