I would disagree with you. I think fou could get you 1:2 depending on which bottle. Some bottles would be 1:1+

.25 VR unit. If you are going after a VR. You need a large anchor typically.

 

I just got back from Cantillon nad was wondering what the value is on fresh bottles of the Gueze, Kriek, Rose, Nath 2018, and Grand Cru Bruocsella 750s? secondary $ value? I am looking to land SARA bottles and HF bottles typically. Also what is the value on westy 12?

hey guys, haven't traded in a while and curious for yalls input.

ive got some tilquin pinot noir that I want to trade for sante beer.

I have no idea what's fair, but thinking something like 2 750s of noir, 1 last year 1 this year, for eoc, family whistle, recent west ashley batch and 1 more, maybe bernice. so 2 pinot noir for 4 sara beers... how off am I lol?

 

The whole units of VR seems so silly to me. You can talk around secondary dollar value, you can talk equivalents of secondary value in known units, you just can’t say the actual words.

 

This would be pretty off. I’d say the 2 Pinot Tilquin would be reasonable to ask for an EOC b2 + Bernice 2:2 or maybe a Family Whistle + West Ashley 2:2 but definitely not a 2:4. Even those are probably a right set of eyes situation given the carbonation issues of Pinot.

Seems you're a little short. I've seen Assassin 16 drop to about 1.25 VR units where as Starve B is 1:1 with VR and pallbearer is about .75.

 

I wholeheartedly agree with this and the VR unit system is mirroring bitcoin in a many ways. The second a couple people on the other beer site start saying "the vanilla is falling off" look what will happen. I'm looking forward to the 2018 vanilla which I'm sure wont see much distribution and is going to be painful to land I imagine.

I stated this a bit above, but this is no different in many disciplines than using a numeraire to "peg" a value to a particular good. I.e. all goods are based off the value of one. Hence, since VR is so established as a known value, it is the numeraire here, and everything is comparable.

While I understand and agree where you are coming from, pretty much everything I (personally) say is based around what I have seen from completed trades. I've never done secondary, so short of someone having communicated something to me in a message for a trade, or a friend ranting/raving, I'm not aware of these values. This is probably why I (at least partially) diverge and disagree on value compared to some members. As has been pointed out before, the two are not the same.

All this said, I respectfully understand and can see where you two are coming from. I think the way to curb this is to try to keep people from asking "What's the value of XYZ bottle," and instead continue to encourage "Is XYZ : ABC trade off? I'm on the ABC side." To me, that's way more helpful anyway. Trying to understand a land a trade where you have an ADWTD DO vs. Rare '15 as your anchor is completely different. It speaks to different people, the attractiveness is different, and relative trade value is different due to rarity, even if "approximate" trade value via completed trades shows that they are nearly the same.

 

Potentially looking to snag another MDb5 for my buddy as a housewarming bottle. Think this is a fair offer?

I'm curious what others think. My gut is that if you find someone wanting to do a Maple for Maple trade - interested in finding other maple beers...You'll get this done 1:1. If you don't find that, I suspect you'll need a small plus.

 

I really don't think there's a value on Maple BA Huna. Few trades have been made for it, being 1pp. You could set the value, personally I think it's worth way more than regular MD.
