Well, after 80+ awesome trades.. looks like I might just hang it up.....

two boxes in a row now damaged/lost by UPS.

One going to a long time trading partner in Philly and today a box that was showing up at my place from San Diego... (I'll cry if I think about what was inside)

The box that showed up on my door step today had 4 boxes of bleach in it and an invoice from a company in NC.... being shipped to a company in the next town over from me... My box came from SD... so UPS switched something either intentionally or not.....

This is probably enough for me to hang it up... (at least for a while)

    sad....

You shouldn't hang it up. If you look at like 2 out of 80 thats not too bad of a run rate if you ask me. We all know that is risk we take. Hang in there it will get better.

Still sucks big time no doubt, but that isn't a reason to hang it up. Hopefully your long term partner will understand and you can ship something else.

    Just my opinion.

This sucks to hear, really sorry. Maybe Fed Ex is an option?

I did. Called the place where it was sent from. Called local UPS and also have a call into the local business.

We pray the local business has my beer, but I doubt it. (tear running down cheek!)

Ouch - this couldn't have happened to a nicer BA either. Hope your box turns up, as I have a sneaking suspicion I know what was inbound...

agree. trader retirement is all good, but you may as well end on a high note with some of your best trading partners.

I almost hung it up when I thought FedEx had lost my box a couple of weeks ago -- but then it turned up! Hope yours does, too.

Damn Greg, this is just bad luck. I hope things turn out better man.

I'm sure I can keep you in the trading game, I've been out for a while, but I can always make an exception for my number one trading guy.

After this bad luck, good Karma just has to come.

I have cut down to just special requests from tasting group and from trade partners, and long time wants. Planning to give it up completely soon. Like Mr. Kawada says, too much good local beer now, why trade for stuff not really any better?

So far the only problems have been inbound from FedEx, and have been resolved. Hope yours gets resolved as well.

Trying to give up trading is like trying to get off crack or retire from the mob (or so I hear).

    Good luck.

I'm currently in the process of hanging it up (sort of). I only trade every once in a while now (down from 2x a month or so, maybe even more to about 1x every other month). The only exception is for my regular trading partner in PNW, and if I want to go after something nice (recently heady topper). I'm currently in the process of drinking down my cellar too. Only going to be actively cellaring lambic and other things that I have proven to myself that they age well (expedition stout, palo santo, etc...).

Edit: This was really accelerated once I started getting my cousin to ship me RR stuff, as he lives in santa rosa, and is cool with picking me stuff up (beatification, t25, etc)

The wife suggested I take a hiatus effective immediately. I'm spending too much :slight_frown:

Eh, just take a break, 2 out of 80 is actually a really good percentage of success.

Sorry to hear this. That really sucks

You know you cant quit though, Rich! As I told you last time, use FEDEX. Cheaper anyways. I've had 0 problems in a full year since switching over.

After a "lost" package and a not-so-great conversation with my UPS store I really didn't want to trade anymore. I slowed down a little, did a few IP trades. Now, I think I have my mojo back.

It's like getting in a car accident, the best thing to do is get back behind that wheel!
