I've done two types of trades now - a straight $4$ trade of Heady for Pliny and a curated box for a curated box. I really like the curated box part better - I sent a bunch of stuff from Night Shift, Trillium, Tree House, Clown Shoes and Maine Beer Co. that I like, and in return a friend in Austin sent me a bunch of Jester King, Prairie, Four Corners, Deep Ellum and El Chingon that he likes.

Which type of trade do you prefer? Do you enter trades seeking a specific beer, or do you prefer to be surprised with some beers you can't normally get?

I like something of a mix of the two. My TX trading buddy and I ask each other if the other would like the latest XYZ beer and let each other know how much they run. We build a box up and try to match $4$ as best we can with bottles we are asking for. After we have comparable boxes, we close the deal, throw in a crapload of extras and send them off. Last box I sent his way was over $35 in just shipping.

I aim for similar to what @Vivified does.

Most commonly, the first part of the trade involves specific bottles on both sides and then we round out the box with other local favorites.

My favorite trades are with long term trade partners. We just take turns sending boxes to each other. Sometimes it is based off a recent special release and other times it is just for their local favorites.

Curated boxes only really come about when you find a regular trading partner. No one ever posts a FT: Locals ISO: Whatever. That being said, I've only ever had a regular trading partner once before and we would constantly be trying to one-up each other on the wow factor with every box sent and I loved it. He's no longer able to trade though since he had his second child and went back to school. I miss him dearly :slight_frown:

Haha, that's my current situation - a fellow Rams fan in TX, and we've been sending each other curated boxes back and forth, trying to out-do each other. It really is fun. I like the idea of introducing them to a beer they didn't know about before - did this with my first box, he was all excited about Heady and Lunch, but totally overlooked Second Fiddle (until he drank it and became a Fiddlehead convert).

Curated boxes with someone you have never traded with could lead to missed expectations. But as others have said, once it is with someone you know it can be great. I have a couple of friends now who we just send each other stuff we know we would like it or cant get.
