    Hello my fellow degenerates,

A little input would be appreciated.

In a recent trade, one bottle was missing from the box that was delivered to me. I have been in discussions with my trade partner, and based on the descriptions provided and the box that was received, it is apparent that Fed Ex completely repacked the remaining bottles in a new box and taped the old label to the new box. There is no way to tell whether a bottle broke, or if some employee just developed sticky fingers. I have no doubt that the bottle was originally included in the shipment.

So here is the question: Is there a responsibility to replace the bottle, or should it just be chalked up to the vagaries of trading?

Extra credit double jeopardy question: The missing bottle cannot be replaced, as it was the last one the trader had. What are the best options in a scenario like this?

Thanks in advance for any thoughts on this matter.

    Cheers!
    Craig

Yes they do need to send you a replacement beer. Sucks it was his last one but something similar couof help so long as you're ok with what he's offering to replace it with.

If you trade a beer you know you can't replace just make sue you wrap the ##%# out of it. Not saying he didn't-but if it didn't survive its on him to make it good.

Makes no sense for a shipping employee to lift a bottle, he could have " damaged it out " Labeled it lost with contraband and took the whole box with little effort. If it not an xtra it has to be replaced regardless.

While it makes no sense it has happened. I got a box that was repacked with all 6 bottles gone, just an unmarked growler inside, which the scumbag probably didn't take because he didn't know what was in it. It was from a regular trading partner so I know it was wrapped like Fort Knox.

It is on the sender to replace the beer. It is likely that it broke, that is on him whether it was truly his fault or not. Since that was his last one, the two of you need to work together to come up with an agreeable, suitable replacement.

Thank you for the replies thus far. My trading partner and I wanted to get a consensus from the community to determine how best to proceed and ensure a fair outcome based on "standard" trading practices. It seems like things are pretty one sided at this point, so if anyone disagrees with any of the previous comments, feel free to chime in with your thoughts.

    Cheers!

To add absolutely nothing productive to this, I recently sent a 12 bottle shipper that arrived with 11 bottles. I know it had 12 bottles when I shipped because I actually took a photo before taping it up. It arrived in the same box ... but the bottles were rearranged into different positions and the bottle that clearly looked the most expensive - it was an Ale Apothecary bottle and they look sexy - was missing. I'm fairly certain it didn't break because the packaging was the same and there were no discolorations from moisture.

So, the point is, Fed Ex thievery doesn't seem out of the question for folks assuming something broke.

Fortunately, I can replace the bottle. I am also filing a claim with Fed Ex stating that something was removed from the package to see if I'll get reimbursed. I figure since they didn't notify that the box was repacked and didn't send me any notice about shipping alcohol, they have no way of knowing the contents. It's a shame that the "lamp" I sent didn't make it.

I'm going to start putting sparkles and bangles on the Lime-a-Rita extras I send. If they go thru, tasty goodness for my trade partner. If some shipping employee is looking to score a sexy bottle, they will be unable to resist the shiny limey siren song.
