OK I have to tell you fine BAs about one of my pet peeves.

I appreciate well constructed feedback on beer trading posts, but don't you think it is a bit ridiculous when you or another BA makes a legit offer on an ISO and another immediately jumps onto the post and tells him/her that their beer won't land their ISO? I mean…what's the point? Won't the lack of responses tell you that your offer wasn't substantial enough to land your ISO? Why is this type of response necessary

It seems to me that the majority of replies to ISO threads of this nature are really intended to say … I have that beer and I don't want anybody to trade it for what this guy/gal is offering…this beer is worth more than that!!

I just think that beer trading would be better without the threadsh!++!^g

    For example:
ISO: BVDL + Cable Car + Blauw FT: Sam Adams Boston Lager

No written feed back necessary. This will not get done

    or

ISO: Side Project Fuzzy FT: Allagash Midnight Brett

Above will not likely get done but it probably does not need anybody to reply to the thread talking about availability or ratings or bottle count, etc. because in reality who cares? If the guy with bottle A wants bottle B thats up for trade …let it happen. Don't worry about protecting the value of your super rare beer… if it is that rare and in that much demand it will inevitably be apparent to all and if not the ones looking for it just won't be able to obtain it!

In brief: Regarding trade ISO posts… just let the deal or lack of a deal speak for itself

Most likely this post won't change anything but… for what it's worth

    Happy Drinking!

Happens a lot. What I end up doing now is looking for someone that has the beer listed as "for trade" already and trying to spark up an offer that way. The 1st post i ever put up in the ISO:FT forums got shot down so bad i was almost turned off from trying to make my 1st trade even happen. Luckily a nice dude sparked up a whole new deal with me off that post through a personal message, but since then though I just PM people so that a 3rd party won't try and bash a trade their not even planning on being part of in the 1st place...

I don't mind feedback of any kind unless it's really mean-spirited.

Sometimes, particularly with new traders, people literally don't know what things are worth (or can't believe it in the ridiculous bottle trades), and it takes a bit of learning to get your feet on solid ground. It's not that easy to search for what beers are worth or how to trade $4$, quantity for quality, and all the other little nuances of the trading game (let alone the rampant acronyms, but that's another discussion).

Feedback is generally good, but please, let's make sure it's kind and constructive. Some of the more seasoned traders seem to encourage threadshitting since they don't take it too seriously anymore, and that's fun, too. I think things are okay where they are. Honestly, the trade forums are probably some of the most heavily moderated on this site, so I'm not sure there's really much of a problem.

    Thanks for the reply

Exactly my point… This shouldn't happen to well intended traders

This site is awesome, but the internet is always gonna be full of trolls and douches. Just gotta find a way around all the bullshit. If it wasn't for the good people that use this site and what it stands for I would have never tried heady, plinty, sip of sunshine, 2nd fiddle, black tuesday, etc.. The beer community is amazing around here, just gotta talk to the right people:sunglasses:

I read the trade forum a lot, but I'm trying to stick to trading with a couple of regulars for now, but I have noticed that this particular forum has more DBs, dick wavers and one-uppers, than other areas of the site...maybe it's just me

    @loverofthecraft I'm with you.

I think any (even "kind") input given on the post is hurting a potential trade whether they mean it or not. Because if you are really trying to help and not HURT or squash the deal, why wouldn't you simply PM the OP your "helpful" input?

There's only one answer to that question and it isn't advocacy, IMHO.

For example, if someone that doesn't know the current "value" of their beer but is happy to oblige to a $4$ offer see's someone else post that they could get more...they are unlikely to trade, and will then want maximum value. People describe this as "protecting" noobie traders, but it's probably 1:10,000 where some noob acquires a KBBS and looks to trade it without knowing what it fetches.

    This bears repeating.

There's almost no such thing as public "helpful" feedback on a trade request.

But as we've seen from the "message etiquette" thread, the people who most need assistance in how to be good, solid human beings are the least likely to read (or perhaps understand) these types of threads.

I've been guilty of this in the past and I apologize to anyone I've threadshit on. If not interested or able to engage in any specific trade, we should move along.

Any of you with a little tenure will remember that we used to be unable to do this... there was no "Reply" to click on a trade post. Perhaps that should return.

Speaking of Pet Peeves -> "I've seen this get done"

This quote is most often used in posts with very lop-sided offers...as justification. It is also found often by those trying to protect or increase bottles values...because, you know, if one generous trader does it then everyone should ask for that. #AdvocacyAwareness

Yep - so annoying. There are certain posters who routinely post those type of messages with a vested interest in protecting their "assets". It's a shame things have come to that unfortunately.

The cycle on this thread re-appearing over and over again seems to be about 4-6 months.

Unless there are no replies allowed, or posters are allowed to lock their own threads, comments are going to happen. If they're useless, ignore them, like you would useless comments anywhere else on the site.

I hate the "If I didn't just trade away / drink my last bottle / was down to my last bottle, I would be all over this!" comment.

I actually wish I could threadshit more.

It literally makes my brain hurt reading all these shitty trade offers. It drives me nuts that people can't take 5 minutes to do a little research and determine what a reasonable offer is.

Hahaha! Thread shitters drive me crazy, & I have to admit that I've been sorely tempted several time recently. Only fear of turning into a rank hypocrite has kept me quiet.
