Wanted to try some of their stuff but I'm slightly clueless on its value. I have access to the NJ big boys Kane and Carton.

I'd say they have beers to suit every trading level, from very tasty shelf beers to single-bottle membership allocations. Do you have an idea of which De Garde beers you want to aim for?

Not really. I'd like to try a Berliner. Suggestions?

Bu Weisse is one of the beers that they recently started distributing, along with a wild farmhouse ale called Petit Desay. I wouldn't say they have wide distro, but they're reasonably easy to find in Portland. Cost is right around $5 for a bomber for both. The brewery is about to start distributing both of those beers in Washington, which led the brewer to remark, "I suspect supplies will be more limited, but not scarce."

Fruited Bu Weisse and Imperial Bu Weisse variants are the most popular De Garde Berliners, and they release quite a few different versions of each over the course of a year. Those are almost always brewery-only releases, and tend to command good beers in trade because of their near-universal deliciousness and relative scarcity.

You can always check their Facebook page to see what bottles are available in their tasting room. Keep in mind that Tillamook is about an hour and a half from Portland, so "gopickitupformebro" is kind of impractical.

I will tell you; I have traded for close to 40 bottles of De Garde within the past few months. I've given up stuff from Bullfrog Le Roar Grrrz (set) to Parageusia1 to Cherry Rye, etc. for a package of their stuff. As noted before, I have a rather sick obsession with their beers. If you go to Tired Hands, Forest & Main, Kane releases that is easy trade bait.

Another thing: The first round of Bu Weisse and Petit Desay bottles, in 22 oz. bombers, had very low carbonation. From the next batch forward, they will be packaged in 750 mL bottles, which can better handle the appropriate levels of carbonation for each beer.

Like Shane said, Tired Hands, F&M, and Kane will surely help. @HopBomb515, if you have any Tired Hands, hit me up, I'll swap some de Garde goodies with you.

Best bet is to just toss up a bunch of stuff you have available and try to get a sampling. As said above, maybe stay away from the Petit and Bu since people have variable experiences - I really enjoyed my bottles - but try to get a variety of Bu, Imperial Bu, Gose (the two "Hose" variants are incredible), saisons, etc. If you like dark sours, there are some good ones - Dark Harvest was excellent.

I'd say don't obsess over certain bottles and be open to surprises. For example, I know a lot of people weren't excited by the idea of Gooseberry Bu (what the hell is a gooseberry?) or Kiwiberry Bu (what the hell is a kiwiberry?) but both were really nice, zippy, refreshing beers. The Kiwiberry almost seemed salty, like a margarita berliner.

Carton stuff in addition to the other stuff mentioned above (Kane, F&M, Tired Hands) will get interest. The waxed growlers, Epitome if it's around, Monkey Chased the Weasel, Regular Coffee, etc; a sampler of those would get a conversation going.

just as an FYI, Epitome, Monkey and now Regular Coffee have all been canned exactly once each. I would wager that no one has any Monkey left (to trade), and very few have any Epitome either. Unless you live close to the brewery, most people didn't get more than 1-2 4-packs of any of those beers

Nice. Didn't realize it was one time each so far. I've been fortunate enough to get Epitome and Monkey and hope my luck continues with Regular Coffee. ;-)

Definitely makes them good trade fodder then on the off chance that someone does have any left!

yeah I got a bit lucky with Monkey, it lasted 4 weekends in May (I think) so I was able to go twice (which meant I had a case), but Epitome didn't last as long and I could only go once, but got my 4 4-packs. Coffee is either a smaller canning run or something because even at the brewery it's only 2 4-packs, and Augie himself said it may make it to a 3rd weekend. I'm personally going down tonight to secure my 2 4-packs!

Only had one DeGarde beer and loved it. Looking to trade for a few of the fruited Bu's. Would asking for 3 in exchange for a '14 prop be an acceptable trade?

Probably, but it depends on the specific bu's you're after.

Dang I thought Monkey was a rotation beer. Was planning on adding it to my perpetual ISO list...

As @WTKeene said, depends. But it's certainly close. You won't get 3 x Black Raz or Imperial Boysenberry - maybe more like 1 of those - but an assortment of 3 would get done.

3x is fair. Like Kurmaraja said it would depend on the three, but this should get done. PM me and we can most likely work something out! Cheers.

Hey CD, quick question which is related to this topic: I saw your recent ISO:FT post and saw that you are offering up 24 different De Garde varieties. I didn't want to threadjack your ISO post, but I was curious of two things...is that one bottles of every De Garde release? And what it would take to land a massive box of De Garde like that?

Hey man De Garde has had more releases than 24. I'm not sure but I would guess over 50. As far as the 24, I was not necessarily offering up 24, but saying I have 24 and could combo a certain amount of them for certain beers. I have been able to trade quantities of De Garde for whales like VSB, DB Huna, Assassin, Prop, DDG, Etc., but for other more white whales it seems like people are looking for equally as rare beers so I've had no hits on trading larger quantities like 12x De Garde or more for more rare beers. I hope that answers your question.
