I just received word from my trade person in Mass that even though packaged correctly (taped bottles, triple bubble-wrap, extra padding around box walls) one of the bottles broke due to freezing. And the 3 cans I sent did not fair well. He said that they all seemed half full. Luckily, they were all extras and the traded beers were in the middle unharmed. I still feel bad and in the process to ship another sorry package.

This brings up the question of shipping in styro shippers. Won't styro shippers insulate from the outside air?

I'm just curious if this was also double boxed? Did it sit on a porch for hours? Get stuck in a warehouse for a weekend? I just shipped an outgoing box via FedEx to SoCal and now I'm getting worried. I double boxed mine, packing peanuts, newspaper, quadruple bubble wrap, the works.

My package was suppose to arrive on a Friday, then Saturday, then Monday. It finally arrived at destination on TUES!! So yes, I assume it was freezing in the warehouse somewhere.

Temps have been too cold in Iowa for safe shipping since mid/late January. All of the boxes I'm shipping include at least some low abv beer. Most of the boxes I'm due to receive also contain low abv beers.

I'm waiting for overnight lows that are 22-25, possibly 25-28. A lot of the beers are difficult, even impossible, to replace. I'd rather play it safe & limit the risk of losing good beer. I'd also like to keep FedEx happy.

In the trades I've arranged since Jan I've made it known ahead of time that it's much too cold to ship & only agree to the trade if the shipping delay is acceptable. Everyone has been very patient & supportive.
