I'm sipping on a Founders Smoked Porter and it instantly transports me back to a great trip to Grand Rapids. The atmosphere and camaraderie I experienced there instantly become fresh memories. I have a more embarrassing memory that's associated with Founders Breakfast Stout...think "falling with grace". Anyone else have a beer that takes them back or recalls memories?
Andechser's Helles, which I had at the monastery in Germany. That trip to Germany was transformational for me in that I came back stateside obsessed with the helles style and in particular, Andechser and Augustiner's versions, only to be unable to find either.
Old Milwaukee. It takes me back to the river where, when I was five years old, my dad gave me my first sip of beer. Man, it was gross, but it takes me back when I see a can.
Keystone Light was the beer of choice on my college campus. $10.99 for a 30-pack and $65 for a keg... Seeing a can or advertisement brings back memories of beer bongs, keg stands, plastic red cups, & getting drunk for less than $10 a night.
Mickey's Big Mouth. Cutting class in high school senior year. Getting busted by friends mom one time. Returning to physics calls a little happy. Don't miss those days, but good memories...
PBR, Newcastle, and New Glarus Fat Squirrel were the first beers I really enjoyed so I will always have fond feelings/memories for them.
PBR - Not in a good way, Rolling Rock in a much more fantastic way, 'Ganset... Corona, the list goes on, probably the only really good beer that fits in the category of nostalgia is La Fin du Monde
PBR- Was 18 years old at my first Van's Warped Tour, It was about 9 or 10 in the morning and we were pregamming, I brought Corona's with me because they were easy to drink. The guy parked next to us says- "Man you need to try this beer, it’s the best beer ever" and proceeds to hand me a can of PBR, I took one sip and politely passed it back to him. It was terrible, every time I drink a PBR now I think of that day and still tell the story about it.
Yuengling Lord Chesterfield Ale always takes me to a bar right up the street from my parents' house. It's the only place I allow myself to have it so I guess that's cheating. Also, OP, try "TransPorTational" beer instead of "TransForMational".
Red Stripe and Coors light: Cant stand Coors light anymore but they take me back to my younger days, hanging with my boys, riding on top of cars and just causing trouble. Still surprised most of us made it through those days. RIP RallDog!
Similar for me -- Pilsner Urquell and Staropramen remind me of my trip to the Czech Republic (especially when I'm drinking either out of a mug). Drank sooo many of those over there. Most places they were 30-40 crown (~$1.50-$2) and you don't really tip, so I definitely got my fill. It gave me a new found respect for pilsners, along with other old world sessionable brews (kolsch, helles, schwarzbier, etc).
Fellow Redbird? Pricing sounds familiar too. I graduated in '07. Another cheap option - Old Style will always bring me back to the Wrigley Field bleachers on a hot summer day. Good way to remind yourself of summer when I continually curse winters in Chicago.
The first was Sam Adams-After 25 years of not even touching a beer cause I could not stand the taste or lack of it was an epiphany.Life was never the same. After drinking 60 minute and 90 minute for a while the next epiphany was La Fin Du Monde-that was a real eye opener or closer depending on what bottle I was on(almost 2 bombers sitting in the bar in Harry's oyster house in Atlantic City. And finally recently Dirtwolf.Hard to stop drinking it.2x IPA's were not my style but now forget it-only thing I drink( Double Jack,Chillwave,Maharaja the list is endless)
