I agree. I got M2D & JIL last week & have not had prior batches of either beer. I thought M2D was the better of the two, but was definitely let down by JIL. I honestly don't think I'd purchase JIL again, but I'd give M2D another try. And yes Obligatory is their best hoppy beer!

I've said it in this forum before and here I am saying it again: IMO Obligatory and Flightless are head and shoulders above the other Transient hoppy beers (which are also very good offerings). Unfortunately the only Obligatory cans I've had were from a batch around Oct., 2017 that was nowhere near an accurate representation of the amazing hazy IPA I've had on tap several times.

Any reviews of the Sunday members party in Bridgman? Surprise taps, bottle pours or bottles for sale? Any news or updates on the expansion?

what are everyone's thoughts on the 2018 membership benefits & value? I was hoping for more than 1 of 4 bottles being members only & more than 2 of 4 being wild. i do like the reserve bottle & bottle hold benefits & that he's giving IL members the option to be grandfathered in to the consolidated membership program. I'm still on the fence about renewing, but loved the last batch of wild fruit beers & am super intrigued by the coolship wild blends he's said are on the horizon and am leaning towards pulling the trigger

I was/am on the fence about renewing. I do however like that fact that you are paying “x amount of dollars” up front for “x amount of beers.” My biggest issue with the membership was the lack of information per release. You didn’t know ANYTHING about the beer until a week before you had to buy it. So annoying. This is definitely a nice change moving forward. You know how many beers you’re getting, and the style as well. The price point seems a bit off, to me at least, considering the pricing of member bottles of past. Unless every bottle is going to be 750ml, not sure I value a party and the option to reserve worth $40-$50. The fact that it’s now farther away (I live in Madison), and past has shown most parties are on a Sunday, is most likely putting me in a position to miss the end of the membership party. Again, that’s my situation. If I lived closer, it might not be as big of an issue.

Dropping My Membership after 3 years. The party was fun but there are too many truly local brewer's now that I would rather support. Communication was awful, I think the pricing is now way off, and I don't see myself making the drive for the beers being offered. I wish Transient the best of luck but when Forbidden Root, Corridor, Half Acre, and others are putting out much better beer its hard to justify.

Agree the communication was bad last year, but I hope he heard the feedback & agrees he can be more proactive in communicating with members. The pricing seems off to me too, especially because he didn't confirm (like he has in the past) how many ML's the bottles will be like @Thrillhouse82 said. 4 x 750's is one thing, ,4 x 500's (like the last fruited releases were) is another. I also found that Wake & Cake being released this weekend being the first release of the new membership a bit annoying.

On the local competition piece, I agree if you're talking NE IPA's, I didn't join originally because of his IPA's I joined because of his wild beers. I haven't been able to have a HA Wyld Cove beer yet (heard great things) but I haven't tried anyone locals who's wilds are as good or consistent as Chris'. I did have a Penrose Wild 24 last weekend I really enjoyed FWIW.

I may pull the trigger for this year to give it a try & guarantee a bottle of the blended wild, but it will probably be a last minute decision.

What is the information about the Wake & Cake? I find communicating with them is inconsistent at best.

Hmm completely disagree on the wilds. One of the other reasons im leaving. The last round were all stellar but the ones previous were pretty hit or miss IMO.

What is the beer--it's just BA Cake & Bake, no?

I believe it is Cake & Bake aged in maple syrup bourbon barrels for 16 months.

From a facebook comment "Cake and Bake, which is what we released last year, is a majority of the base, but it is blended with some maple syrup bourbon barrel kentuckley."

Is anyone else (in Illinois) on the fence like me because of the distance of getting there 4 times a year? I really want to re-up but it's hard to find time to make a 2-3 hour one-way trip to pick up bottles.

Anyone interested in forming a wolfpack and we can take turn picking up bottles? Or can I join one already in existence? Things I have to offer ... good looks, charm, stud with the ladies, and above all - modesty.

For realz, tho, this has to be a consideration for people, I would think. It's the main thing keeping me from no doubt re-joining.

I'm in Downers Grove, so it's ~90 minutes each way for me. I'm open to the idea, where are you at?

Ok, so @kort27 & I are both west of the city & decided we are both going to renew & partner together on alternating/coordinating our quarterly bottle pickups. If any other IL members are interested in being part of our group PM either of us. a 3rd would be ideal because then each of us is responsible for 1 quarter per year assuming we would each make the trip for the members event & bottle pickup that quarter.

What are everyones thoughts about tomorrow's release? Shit show or easy flow?

I believe the only real shit show release was Buckley day, but given that this is blended with Kentuckley, has maple & allotment is going to between 3-6 bottles per person there could be high shit show potential. But then there's the $25 / 22oz price point. So this is a tough one & I'm sure I've been no help

I figured chances were 50/50. I was at Buckley day and most certainly do not want to entertain that disaster again! Hoping they solved that problem and things would be more fluid.

I'm guessing if you show up around 3 or 4 in the afternoon, you'll be fine, one way or another. Either the crazy people will have cleaned it out and you'll be free to drink some excellent beer on tap with minimal hassle, or there will still be some bottles left after the crazy people leave and you'll be able to get some while drinking excellent beer on tap with minimal hassle.

One of my biggest complaints is inconsistency from batch to batch. And when you fork over $20 for a 4 pack of a DIPA, you want consistency. Cromulent is the one beer I buy with confidence each time, it's always been solid. Overall Transient does make some great beers, but I agree with lots of the posts above, as I too need to drive 100 or so miles to go there.
