Velvet Sea on tap yesterday was insanely good. F--- definitely fucks. Great time. Haven't had Brimley yet aside from on tap release day but that sucks if its soured.

Great time. Velvet Sea definitely great. The party and early entry to Buckley release pretty much pays for your membership.

Also glad to see Juice is Loose tasting like it used to after changing back yeast. That beer had been very inconsistent for awhile.

And brimley was a drain pour for me.

I didn't make it down to the party, so didn't pick up F---. Is it worth giving up one of Ruckey/Buckley/BA neckbeard variant to get one? I'm not a completist, although I fight that tendency.

So going through Untappd, there are checkins going back to Nov. 4 with notes of green apple and some saying “off” before that.

Anybody have any more news of this? Whether Transient has addressed it or it has been addressed to them yet?

I was going to go there for the first time Saturday, and this is one I was most excited about, but I’ll be skipping now. I just find it hard to believe they’re still selling this.

My bottle of Brimley definitely wasn’t infected but may have been developing some light off flavors. On Untappd I’ve seen a mix of people saying there’s was infected & others saying it was fine. Transient hasn’t addressed the issue either way which is disappointing.

I just opened one last night that was all apple. Drain pour bad, unfortunately. I reached out to Transient via Facebook but haven't gotten a response.

Both @kort27 & I had our own memberships this past year & chose not to renew for 2019. He went up this past weekend to pick up our last allocations & got our bottles of Brimley that were part of the membership. Have not had one yet, but both he & I (as well as several others I'm sure) have reached out to Transient on multiple platforms asking about the rumors of infection/off flavors with no reply that I'm aware of. They also still have it on the shelf at the brewery for sale. Apparently Chris is in Mexico, so there wasn't a chance to ask directly.

There are several reasons I didn't renew my membership for 2019, primarily because (to me) there isn't the "value" in the membership that their used to be & certain decisions with the membership haven't sat well with me. Overall, I think their customer service leaves something to be desired, as this unaddressed Brimley situation shows.

I'll continue to support them because I believe Chris makes very good wild & fruited wild beers. I just couldn't justify the extra dollar commitment of a membership as it's currently constructed.

New membership is open...I decided to join. Worst comes to worst I have a reason to go to the brewery 4 times this year, which should be fun.

Just opened my bottle of Strawberry Rhubarb Maigre that I picked up at the member’s party. It had, what I would describe as, a “smokey” finish to it. This was actually something I picked up on from the bottle of Blueberry Anachronism I had a month or so ago as well.

I mentioned it to a few friends who are also Transient members. Regarding the Rhubarb, some picked up on it, some said they found nothing. Anyone else notice this with any of their bottled wild ales? Really hoping this isn’t the case with the last two members bottles, since I couldn’t finish the Maigre.

Cracked my Brimley Saturday night. Can confirm it's infected. Nasty sour apple jolly rancher is all I tasted. Immediate drain pour of the bottle and glass. No one has heard anything from Transient on this?

Well if they're still selling it ... gotta guess they aren't too concerned with the complaints/reports ...

Directly from Chris in an email to me ...

We have heard people saying they get green apple from it, though we had this same feedback on our bottles of bad hombre which were all aged in Wild Turkey barrels, because that is a major flavor component of that particular brand of bourbon. It ages away over time, but that is not an infection, but rather from the barrel itself.

    Chris

So, really cool of him to respond to me on this, I thought.

Yes. Nice to hear something from it. Thanks for posting.

But some were saying “sour” green apple. So I’m curious if it was truly sour, or some people are just correlating green apple to sour.

Mine came off sour, without a doubt. Undrinkable, it was that bad tasting. If that's the flavor profile, then I'll be sure to never buy a Brimley again...

If the sour taste is supposed to age away, why even sell it now?

I'm confused why someone would use a spirit that has prominent green apple flavor in the first place for aging beer. I'm also confused as to why the apple flavor would age out if it is part of the intended flavor profile by the bourbon maker.
