Any good suggestions on how to transport beer in a checked bag on a plane?

If you have the baggage allowance, just check a styro-shipper.

Bubble wrap the hell out of it and put it in a few ziplock/trash bags in case it leaks or breaks.

Just flew home last weekend. Bought a styro shipper @ bevmo for $10,put each beer in a ziploc and wrapped with newspaper. All made it home fine. 12 22's equals 7.8L,you are allowed 5L per person so if flying with 2 people not a problem. Southwest didnt even ask me how much i had but TSA did open and check.

I flew from LAX to BWI with 3 suitcases of beer. I put each beer in a ziploc bag and wrapped it in bubble wrap and/or an article of clothing. I made sure that the entire outer layer of each suitcase was just clothing. Southwest's weight limit was 50 pounds per bag. I had 30 total bottles (27 bombers and 3 12oz). TSA checked each bag, and every beer made it back with me in perfect shape. The belly of a plane is cold too, so no worries about excessive heat during transit. Only problem is I am almost out of Alpines already....

I go back and forth to Florida a lot to visit the folks and transport beer regularly. I use these neoprene wine holders, along with putting the bottles in resealable bags and surrounding them by clothes. I've yet to break a bottle. Not the exact one, but this is similar.

I've also crammed a 6-pack in one of these (Bell's Hopslam) and it came out on the other side all well.

They sell 'em at most of your larger liquor stores (Specs, Total Wine, etc...)

Flew back home from seattle to Vegas and took home 6 bombers of stuff from bottleworks. I double bubbled wrapped them, and then put them in grocery bags. They were fine, i put a fragile sticker on the suticase.

From what I've read & heard, you took a big chance putting the fragile sticker on.

I used to work in airline luggage and whenever we saw a fragile sticker a game of "who can chuck the bag the furthest" was on.

I don't believe it does. I recently brought about 4 cases of wine and beer back from Europe (between me and my wife). No questions asked and no problems with the airlines. Technically we owed US customs on the amount over 1L, but they chose not to bother with the paperwork.

Perhaps there are some countries where there are such low limits, but the burden would seem to be on you to provide some support for the claim.

Nope, you're right. I just checked. I was conflating the 1L maximum to avoid duties with the 5L restriction on 13%-24% booze.

I've used these multiple times... good luck so far. Usually gets wrapped in clothes as well, and strategically packed to minimize risk.
