I have amassed a case or two of beers I am “cellaring” but have just found out I’m moving from Kentucky to Southern California. Last time I moved, from Atlanta to Lexington, I merely packed them in box for the six hour ride. A three day drive, however, has me worried that the uncooled beers in a box will damage them and make me sad. Should I put them in a cooler with ice? A cooler with ice packs? Or just box them and hope?

Assuming your doing this move in the near future when it will be hot I would either get a cooler with ice/ice packs for them or, at the least, get Styrofoam shippers in double wall boxes with ice packs. It gets hot in the back of a truck in the summer and I have definitely ruined some beers by just sticking them in a trunk on a cross country summer drive

An important principle is: never scare old beer temperaturewise.

    when are you moving?
I'd say to put them in a cooler, with ice packs preferably. Seal it as tight as possible and don't open it (unless you need a beverage at night...)
You may need to reload the ice, depending on things. |Are you going to be in a car||? or moving truck? |Try to keep them in the cab / passenger compartment if possible.

Speaking from experience with moving other sensitive items (reef aquariums), it's best to keep temperature as constant as possible. Temperature up (due to high temps outside) or down (due to temps of the ice) can really hurt the beer

When packing, add the beers as the last item and remove them first on the new location, placing them in the new "cellar".

If you keep the beers in a temperature controlled space now, it's worth investing in a drink cooler that works on the cigarette plug in the car.
If you keep the beers just in a moderately cool space (not controlled), it's fine to keep them in the AC controlled space of your car. Maybe keeping the AC lower than you normally would
