This is a pretty cool event for those Chicago Southsiders that want to drink beer and help out a local cause.

The Trappist monks of Koningshoeven, The Netherlands, want to raise money for the Cal-Sag Trail. Their preferred instrument of God is the Trappist beer they brew.
On March 9, they will deliver beer to the Rock Island Public House in Blue Island, on Olde Western Avenue (13328 Olde Western Avenue, Blue Island, Ill. 60406) across from Maple Tree Inn. Guests will be served the monks' beer for free in a special chalice for one pouring. They'll then have the chance to buy their chalice and a raffle ticket for more beer. All the proceeds are donated to Friends of the Cal-Sag Trail.
Event information will be posted soon: www.rockislandpublichouse.com/events

If you're unaware, the communities along the Cal-Sag cannel from Lake Michigan all the way out to Lemont are building a bike and walking trail. Construction on the first phase of this project will start this Spring.

Honestly, people forget about it. Everyone goes down there for MTI and the public house is just as good if not better on some nights.

You definitely need to go to MTI. Having those 2 places right next to each other gives Old Western an amazing one-two punch of beer selection to rival just about any area for miles.
