In a couple of shops (touristshops and local retailers) in Belgium you can buy the Tre Fontane easily now. In the none touristy retailers you pay around 4 euro's for one 33cl bottle.

Can you be specific as to which stores those are?

I do want to go to the abbey regardless, but if I enjoy it, Belgium is easier to get to than Italy for me!

Bierpaleis (Katelijnestraat 25, 8000 Brugge) ==> quite expensive
Rotsaert (Remi Claeysstraat 96, 8210 Zedelgem), Geers (Ledergemstraat 7, 9041 Oostakker) ==> reasonable price

edit: these are shops that I'm certain of that they have Tre Fontana. Other shops will also have them.

In Leuven, the 'Belgian Beer Shop' has it too, along with lots of other good stuff. Might be an easier drive if coming from Germany.

Bierhandel Willems in Grobbendonk do have the Tre Fontane too, they're selling the spencer also.

So I took at 20€ cab ride to the abbey. It's a nice and peaceful place but you can't tour any of the beer making process. There are two sources for their goods. A little store outside the abbey or walk thru the arch and buy it inside. It's .20 cheaper outside unless you want it cold. Then they mark it up .70. It wasn't an amazing experience other than to say you've been to the beer's source. It is readily available in craft beer stores scattered throughout town.

We did stumble upon a cool bar called La Botticella near Trevin fountain.

Thanks for the report. Sounds like I will probably just try the beer somewhere in the city and not make the trek to the abbey.
