So I bought my first rochefort 10 and looked at the date, it reads:

    Best before end 16.07.2019

so my question would be, if that is the enjoy by date, then when was the beer actually bottled?

I've always been mystified why Rochefort (of all places) use the term "best by". Perhaps regulatory reasons?

They'd begin to sell considerably more of the product if they pushed the aging angle. This wording works against that opportunity; at least to the uninitiated.

Legal reasons, on most Trappist websites it addresses this.

    That would explain it...thanks.

Indeed, it's legally obliged in Belgium.

True, but for those who know it's not an issue, and I for one enjoy having a phenomenal quad on shelf all year round. I don't ever want it to be sought after enough that it's hard to get.
