Out here in the western suburbs of Chicago, there are a lot of little niche stores that tend to cater to a wider variety of beer drinkers. Going to show that you never know what you'll find when you walk in, comes this. At a store near my hometown of Warrenville, I walked in to see what kind of outrageous prices they wanted for some GI. This store was the same one charging 29.99 for Bramble and BCBCS back when they were released They wanted 25.99 for Juliet and 19.99 for Lolita. As you can imagine, it's gathering dust. As I walked to the back, what do I discover on the shelves but some Half Acre Gossamer and Daisy Cutter! I pick up both and look for dates, but it doesn't look like they've been there for that long. Two questions I'm wondering: 1) Is there some way to tell how old these are? 2) Is Half Acre expanding their distribuition now, or should I just believe they've acquired them in a shady-like manner? FWIW, I asked the clerk how he managed to get that. He didn't seem to know, but said the middleman/vendor's office was in Chicago... okay... I'm hoping it's treasure. Part two: Still reading? I look around some more and see a GI label I'm unfamiliar with-- an updated version of Demolition? When did I miss that? Nope. I check the bottle date, and it's 8/14/09. The bottle itself says ages up to 180 days... missed that by a bit, but do you, savvy BA people, think it's worth buying? (8.99 a bottle.) Also sitting negelected on the shelves were some 2010 Pere Jacques. I'm guessing they found all these in a corner in the back and are just trying to unload them. Just a surreal experience. ~TK~
I don't think Half Acre dates their bottles. Those are crazy prices. Spend your money somewhere else.
i saw daisy cutter at whole foods in downtown a few days ago. definitely fresh. so...who knows if they're getting recent shipments at random. good luck on the trash or treasure
Well, if anyone else wants to check it out... Winfield Liquors in Winfield. Half Acre Daisy Cutter and Gossamer, plus some weird GI stuff. Enjoy!d
I wouldnt buy the Half Acre stuff. I highly doubt they decided to expand distribution when they can't meet demand in the city
The only one I wouldn't hesitate to pick up would be the 2010 Pere Jacques. I had a 2009 last fall and it was outstanding!
