Traveling from Cali to Mass this week currently in South Dakota will be going through Iowa and Ohio in the next 2 days. What are some must stop places. I would really love to get some cans/bottles/growlers. Was thinking Hoof Hearted for Ohio. Any advice and help would be appreciated
Are you taking I-80 through the state? There are a few threads in the forum for specific cities/areas, but we can help you out a bit better if you give us the path and how far you're willing to venture off of it. Toppling Goliath certainly fits the category of must stop/get, but may not work out well with your plans.
I suspect you'll be fairly far north. That could include a trip to TG in Decorah. It's not really on the way to anywhere though... It'd be more direct to go from (presumably) Sioux Falls over to I35, then down to Mason City area (You can hit Lake Time. I've never been but tried a couple of their beers at fests and it's very good!) then you could either go toward Waterloo, then on to Iowa City and I80 or you could venture off the beaten path to TG... I'm not sure it'd be worth it at this time though. XHops Silver is at the tap room, but nothing else you can't get in any good Hy Vee in Iowa. You could also take I35 straight south, hit Alluvial (Ames) and/or 515 (Des Moines) or just hit the Iowa Taproom in DSM... That'll satisfy your needs for sure. Make sure you get some Ninja vs Unicorn when you get to the Chicagoland area. Love that stuff. My Sister in law lived in Daytona area for a few years, so I've made that trip many times. My recommendation is Rhinegeist Truth. That stuff is great. I did an IP trade for some Hoof Hearted... Last I read, that place was open sporadically and had occasional releases. That may have changed though... Have fun!
Change of plans went to Minn stopping at Toppling Goliath tomorrow then to Ohio. Current thoughts on Ohio is to the Hoof Hearted Pub but open to better ideas
No sure how to add the pic of the map I'm taking but the roads that I'm on most are US-30E,US-33E,I-80,US-18E,I-90E
Do not miss Pulpit Rock in Decorah, as well. It is damn near across the street from TG. Their offerings range from very solid to absolutely stellar.
From Decorah to Columbus, I would go to Madison, to Chicago, to Indy, then to Columbus. Those are some good beer cities! Have fun! I love trips like that.
