We're from the Midwest, flying out east and driving from Boston to Philly. We'll have at least 2 days to explore between the two cities. We want to avoid NYC - only because I'd rather spend a week there, not because it's not worthy. Looking for breweries, good beer stops. Not shops, as we're not looking to ship/fly with a bunch of bottles. We were in Boston in 2005ish and Philly 2 years ago. What's new, what's awesome? What can we not miss? Thanks!

If you're in the NJ area on a Friday or Saturday, check out Kane Brewing in Ocean, Nj. Any day but a Monday around Philly, Tired Hands Brewing in Ardmore, PA (~20 minute outside of Philly proper.

exactly what I came in to post. Captain Lawrence is not terribly far either, and (pause while I load my trusty Google (Beer) Maps) Growler & Gill, right down the road in Nanuet. You will pass right through this area and all are do-able. Happy beer hunting!

The above covered a lot. I'd recommend trying out some places in Boston also. Lord Hobo and The Publick House have great food and tap lists. I dropped a good deal of cash at Bauer Wine & Spirits on bombers, singles, and sixers. Don't miss out on Jack's Abby.

This for sure, and not terribly far from Kane is Carton, they have limited hours as well. Both make fantastic beer that is mostly only on tap.

Not mentioned yet: while you're in Boston you should swing through Everett/Chelsea and hit Mystic, Idle Hands, and (especially) Night Shift.

You might try to hit Forest & Main on your way into Philly. (Tired Hands is sort of past Philly from where you're coming from, but worth an excursion while you're here.) Those are definitely the most notable from the past 2 years.

If Defiant Brewing is on your way, I would recommend them. Delicious BBQ and beer in a very casual setting.

I'm usually the first one to recommend Kane and Carton in Jersey, but that's going to be considerably far out of your way. I'm not sure of any MA stops that might be close by, but I would certainly stop at New England Brewing Company in CT and Peekskill/Captain Lawrence in NYC. If you're looking for stores or places to eat in Jersey I can most definitely recommend a few of those though. Enjoy!
