The first week of August I am heading to Maryland for a friends wedding and will be driving from Indiana. Thought about making a couple brewery stops along the way. I am open to suggestions on which breweries would be best to check out. I will be leaving on a Thursday afternoon and plan to stay somewhere that night before making the last part of the trip on Friday.

Not much of a help for the drive itself, but if you're in MD, I'm always an advocate for stopping at Burley Oak Brewing Co in Berlin (just outside of ocean city). They have some awesome IPAs and make some killer sours. Worth going out of your way a bit IMO

Does your drive take you near Hershey PA? If so Troegs is a must visit. Also down i-270 in Frederick is Flying Dog. Burley Oak is about 2.5-3 hours from the DC area. If you decide to hit the Eastern Shore, there are a few good stops. Burley Oak being the best, Evolution right behind it.

What's your rough route? That might help with suggestions.

Are you taking I-70 all the way from Indiana and then I-270 into DC? Or are you coming from further North?

Agreed. I made the drive last Spring from Morgantown to Munster, and as jmdrp mentions, it really depends on what route you'll be taking. If you come out on I-90, then there are a number of places in Ohio and Pa. that are worth checking out. If you come out on I-70 your options are more limited, but there are still some spots I could recomemend, provided you're willing to make a small detour. As others have mentioned, it's one thing if you stay on I-76 the whole way (untill you get out to I-83; Pizza Boy, Troegs, etc.), and then a completely different matter if you take I-68/I-70/I-270 down directly to DC (or if you cut down on I-70 in Pa. to I-68 in Md). In that case, you would want to consider places like the Apotthecary Alehouse in Morgantown and Always Ron's in Hagerstown.

    Try this: http://www.brewerymap.com
Go to 'road trip' tab. Enter starting/ending point and how far off of the route you're willing to go. Should generate a list of breweries within those parameters. Pick and choose. Enjoy. Drawback? As far as I can tell at this time, you can't change the route it generates.

I've not decided on a route. Had just figured I would take 2 days to do the 12 hr drive. I live an hr west of Indianapolis. I appreciate all the suggestions and am now gonna start to map things out a little better. The wedding itself is in Prince Fredrick

Flying dog is in Frederick, Maryland if you're taking I-70. In downtown Baltimore there's always Maxs tap house, heavy seas alehouse, pub dog pizza/Tavern, Pratt Street ale house, and the ale wife.
