Sorry if this thread has already been posted somewhere. I have decided last minute to fly to Pittsburgh and I will be staying in North Huntingdon/Irwin. Are there any can't miss breweries and bottle shops around? Thanks for the help.
Will you have access to a car and what sort of time will your schedule allow for brewery/bottle shop trips? Start here: http://www.beeradvocate.com/community/threads/visiting-pittsburgh.270594/#post-3447827 Not specific to Irwin, but a good start. There is only one brewery in Irwin that I'm aware of, but it just opened and has had little in the way of reviews.
I will have a car and should have a free day to myself for beer. Not sure which one though. Thanks for the help.
Breweries that are worth stopping at: Roundabout The Brew Gentleman Helltown (great beers but it's just a guy in a garage filling growlers...maybe not the best to stop at but worth trying it you see any around) Voodoo Homestead Bottle shops: Any Giant Eagle (Shadyside and Settler's Ridge are the best though) House of 1000 Beers (stupidly expensive but get a lot of out of distro beers)
Agree with @PSU_Mike 's assessment, and would add that you might try Fat Heads beers if you see them on tap. Believe some of Florida sees some Fat Heads, but I can't recall if it's only Head Hunter and Bumbleberry and don't know if you're in one of those areas. If you haven't had their stuff yet, it's very good.
