I’m going to be in Milwaukee this week (Thu-Sun) for a family event and I’m hoping to track down some beer to bring home with me. I always snag some New Glarus and Central Waters stuff when I’m out there, but what other breweries should I be targeting? Any special seasonal releases floating around stores? Unlikely I can make any substantial detours, so basically best of the shelf beers at the moment. Thanks for the help!

Awesome, thanks. We’re staying in Glendale, so I’ll try to hunt around a bit.

Check out Otto's north of Glendale and one southwest, there are a few locations and they get a good amount of good stuff (see their FB page). Woodman's is a little northwest in Menomonee Falls.

Actually, I was wrong, we ended up at a different hotel, so we're staying near Whitefish Bay, basically around the corner from Sprecher. Looks like there is an Otto's not too far away by UWM. Looking at the map, there is the Hubbard Park Beer Garden nearby. Is this a decent place for a beer in good weather?

I suggest checking out Eagle Park Brewery for great beers and food. They do cans and crowlers if you're looking to take something to go. For just a good liquor store I agree with Otto's.

Discount Liquor and Ray's are probably the two best bottle shops

Was just up there this past weekend and I second Eagle Park Brewery. Taproom just opened 5-6 weeks ago according to the staff and their beers were very solid. We also hit Good City Brewing and Black Husky Brewing, both worth checking out as well, but Eagle Park would be my top choice.

Yeah, I hit Black Husky last year when we were out. Cool neighborhood spot with some quality hoppy beers, but they didn't seem all that friendly to a new face, which seemed odd since everyone else out there is usually quite nice.

If you're staying at the Holiday Inn on Port Washington Road, you can walk to the Estabrook Beer Garden.

Otto's on Oakland is a good choice. Downer Wine and Spirits too.

Check out Gathering Place. Pretty close to where you are staying.

Karben4 Idiot Farm double IPA was just released. It should be available up there, I believe. Not a Wisconsin brewery but Pipeworks out of Chicago is available in Wisconsin now.

Have to second the rec on Estabrook... its outstanding. Absolutely one of the best places to be in MKE in the summer. Very family friendly too.
