I have a friend in Traverse City for the holidays who has ’volunteered’ to bring some goodies back to me in western ND. He mentioned The Beverage Co. of Traverse City as having a great selection... can anyone confirm? Their website list is a mess. What I’m really looking for is some Kuhnhenn and Shorts, but open to other suggestions. Anything I should have him look for or other places to shop? Thanks & Cheers!
No experience with Traverse City specifically, but a lot of the Meijer grocery stores in Michigan have a decent selection of Shorts. Many of them have Shorts available as singles to build your own 6-pack.
BevCo has the best selection by far, but anything rare will sell out there first. Bayside Market has an ok selection and can sometimes have some harder to come by bottles. Tilly's Party Store also has a good selection, plus Bay Bread (great bread) and Frenchie's (amazig pastrami sandwiches) are on the same block. Also downtown are Burritt's and Mahoney's are kind of kittie corner to one another and have ok selections. Not a lot of stuff, but they get little traffic so you can score some gems. Don't forget that Right Brain has bombers for sale also that may not be on store shelves. All of the above will have everything current from Shorts (Burritt's still had some Pan Galactic left a couple weeks ago, and a bottle of Bolt Cutter), but there is ZERO chance you'll find anything from Kuhnhenn in town. Your best bets are Shorts, Brewery Vivant, Founders, Petoskey Brewing, New Holland, Saugatuck, Jolly Pumpkin, North Peak, Greenbush and Oddside.
I'd call ahead and ask for Shawn. He's been immensely helpful to me in the past. And I'd check Burritt's, Tilly's and Bayside for PGGB. If anyone in town has some left, it will be one of them.
Awesome info - thanks! I'm not looking for anything crazy, but the Right Brain stuff is on my list and a couple Founders & Shorts. I was really hoping for Kuhnhenn, but considered it to be a long longshot.
you really wont find it anywhere..They really have not distributed...But very soon they will with their new facility opening
Kuhnhenn will be pub only for the most part. I once managed to stumble across some on shelves at a small liquor store in the detroit area out of sheer dumb luck.
I live in TC and agree with everyone else. Also check out Francisco's. They have a damn good beer selection now!
I love BevCo soooo much. If you don't see something, ask just to make sure, because they sometimes still have stuff left in the back. Bayside Market doesn't have a bad selection, but sometimes the bottles are last years... Selection isn't always as fresh as other places. If your buddy is still In town, tell them to stop by 7 Monks for some quality brews!
Thanks for the responses. I gave him a list this morning and will see what happens after the holidays. Cheers!
