This is a confusing post because I believe ScaryEd is saying that Alter Ego doesn't taste like it was brewed in Monson and you lead off your post saying agreed, after saying that you believe Alter Ego is brewed in Monson.

What makes you think Alter Ego is brewed in Monson?

Yeah I misread it. I guess I’ll have to agree to disagree on Alter ego.
It literally says it on the can. A few batches ago kjjj was also brewed there, but from what I can tell, alter ego always is

Thanks for the info. I haven't had Alter Ego in a long time so was unaware that the can still says Monson. Nearly all the cans have either Brewed in Mass or Charlton though I did see KJjjj had Monson on the label as well; I'll have to look out for AE next time it's released.

I've kind of just assumed KJJJ is still using the very first batch or at least design for the stickers, so I don't take it saying Monson as gospel.

That said I think the Monson thing is silly. Some tree house beers and batches taste better than others, but there's just no way every great one was Monson, especially at their current scale. (And imo, hit ratio, which has been very good pretty much throughout the entire pandemic.)

Couldn’t have said it better. It may have taken a bit of time to suss out kinks during the scaling period, but I think they’ve been dialed in for a while.

I go out of my way to try other breweries, much smaller, and it blows me away with how good TH (in my opinion) still is

    Believe me I agree.

And I still love Alter Ego. I just never get that classic yeast flavor from it. That's fine though because the beers are still great.

It's the same with Julius. It's clearly not "the same" but it's still one of the best flagship beers around.

See I agree with this, but not with the post you're replying to. The IPAs in Monson tasted different and better. The IPA's made in Charlton are good to great, but not as great.

The lagers are much much better, and they have a cool farm brewery to visit, so overall I'd definitely take the current situation, but doesn't change that there's a difference between the IPA's brewed at the two locations.

I know you mentioned Super Sap, which I fully agree with on in regards to the yeast. Did you try find the limit 6?

Tried a couple of stouts on draft: single shot vanilla bean & double shot autumn chocolate truffle. Man I wish they had actual bottles of some of these marshmallow, oreo or chocolate truffle stouts.

Mega treat peach is still one of if not my favorite one off IPA i’ve had on tap from them

I guess I'd just honestly say I don't think there being a difference at the top end squares with my experiences between the two. Now, I'd agree that at Monson it was probably an 80% chance any given can was amazing, whereas at Charlton it's more like a 30% chance (and 65% chance it's really good), but for me there's no way the 5 best Tree House IPAs I've ever had were all 4+ years ago. I do get for some people that shift in consistency is a dealbreaker, but I really don't think the beer was better before,* at least not in terms of how good it could or can be.

*Exceptions being Double Shot and Sap, the former which tasted like beer at one point, and the latter which tasted like pine trees while now tasting like chocolate syrup and juice respectively.

If I’m understanding the argument, you’re suggesting they randomly, once in a while choose to put it on the can. for no apparent reason? Alright.

Anyone know what the original name of Five is/was? If it had one, of course.

Good stuff. Tastes like a VH and VG hybrid.

Anyone who has picked up from the Charlton location recently…any must buys, IPA or stout wise? I’m (hopefully) getting a 4 of the Kellerbier and the dark lager and looking to fill out a full case…

Was there Tuesday. I'm always a fan of picking up any singles they have even though they're usually 6-7$... Picked up King Smooth & Sorbet but haven't tried them yet so can't speak on them more. I also see they have Juice Machine which you can never go wrong, wish they had that when I was there. The holiday offerings are fun and some of them were great, double shot wishlist was worth the buy. As for bottled stouts the offerings have been meh, although I did pick up Memphis Flash just based on the description.

Yeah I saw @ScaryEd post from the other day. I’ve never had either of those Sap variants so I may get both (if they’re still available tomorrow). I kinda like sticking to their “flagships” and the variants.

Super Sap. This batch is flat out, jaw dropping incredible and might be the best NEIPA I've ever had. That's saying a lot but I stand behind it. I can't remember another beer that combines the bubble gum yeast, juicy citrus flavors, piney bitterness, and dense, plush mouthfeel like this one does (that includes the pours of Very Green and Find the Limit I had on tap when I picked it up). It's a true showstopper.

I hope it's still there for you. If you get some, post your impressions here! Given how infrequently they make this one, I'm wondering whether other people share my enthusiasm for it, or if maybe there's something about it that clicks for me differently than most others.
