Well that Woodstock very hazy came and went in a few days. Surprised since the juice machine has been around a bit longer.

    Brother you were not kidding.

I hope this is a sign they've figured something out regarding the recipes. Obviously there will be batch variations but we have had Curiosity 10, the Lights beers, and now this.

I wonder what it is that gives their beer that "flavor". Either way it's always great to have a can and immediately get taken back in time 10 years.

I think it has to do with the malt somewhat. Aside from the most obvious answer that it’s their house yeast. Maybe a touch of crystal malt or whatever is in the older recipes. Note how the Julius family is a bit darker. Something about how those malts blend with the hops to make a novel flavor you couldn’t get out of just one. So yeah not really giving any genius answer here saying “it’s the way the hops, malts, and yeast interact”. I mean that’s pretty much beer 101. But i also think it’s the older American hops that produce that flavor. My guess is like Amarillo or someting? But I also think it has less to do with what the hop varietal is, but how and where they are utilizing it in the process. So in summary, I have no clue and I’m just spitballing randomness. Whatever it is, it’s magic!

No I’d say that’s pretty much it. I think you are very close regarding the malt and house yeast playing together and a huge role. C10 was a representation of something a lot of us know and have looked and waited for. I started to notice it with the lights beers as well. I need to get my hands on some alter as well now. I meant to buy it last week when it dropped and I forgot.

When I first read C10 I read it as C10 Caramalt 10. I’ve heard of lots of new age ipa producers avoiding crystal malt like it’s kryptonite. I’m not sure if that’s where the Julius line gets its darker color, or if they’re doing something else. I bet Nate’s original recipes have some crystal. That was more status quo back then. Something about the beers that strike the perfect balance of malt are just special. Hill farmstead Edward is another one that comes to mind. Maine lunch - another. Those beers are just timeless. I put Julius in that category. Although it’s a little more boundary pushing. Don’t get me wrong sometimes I’m in the mood for a
Milky pale yellow thicc hop thing. And treehouse can serve it up that way too. But those are not the beers I’d be happy buying a whole damn case of. Julius and Edward I’d take a case In A heartbeat

Didn’t realize it was their first time doing this one. But why not super sssap? Treehouse getting inconsistent with these names. Tisk tisk. All jokes aside I’m copping that. Hope regular sap shows up too

Looks like I can make a trip to Charlton for the first time in 4 years tomorrow! Aside from this batch of Alter, any other standout hazies right now?

I'll also probably do the mixed case of their "crispies" because I think Tree House tends to nail almost every style. Super excited to try the Bears again, too!

Grab Julius. The Juice Project series is also usually top tier. If you like stouts, Moher Mocha is crazy good

Is black fern substantially different than silver fern? Silver was on my list but now that black popped up…

Stick with the lower abv one. I had Golden Fern (8.8%) and it was a sludgy-sweet mess

The saps are hitting the shelves hard this week.

I'm glad they’re keeping the same Christmas beers as well as opposed to introducing new ones. I loved all of them the last few seasons.

Quick pit stop last night to grab some more alter ego and figured what the hell and grabbed some very sssappy and in perpetuity(actually got it for the first release in monson and also charlton strangely enough).

had a very sssappyyy last night, and I'll have to give them credit, for a beer this insanely hopped and high abv it's still very drinkable, not super sugary/boozy and bitter without being astringent. But I think for the most part I always prefer the regular versions of all these beers and wish it was just a regular Sap, or maybe even whatever Sapling is which I've never tried.

Black and silver are both 7.8% based on what Nate said in a recent you tube video I think it’s the same beer but black ferm used a special hop blend from Garston

So, curios of peoples thoughts on todays “Free hot chocolate”

The Xmas beers are out, needed a coffee re up as well as wish list being released. Then I see “Free Hot Chocolate” at all locations. Great, my 9/80 Friday off is tomorrow, Em wants to try the Coquito and our weekend is jammed. Let’s just go tonight and drive the 45/50 minutes.

So we get there, grab a pour and sit. I can see the hot chocolate sign and ask how much is left as it’s laugh. She checks it and says you’ll be fine. Granted the selling point for Em to come was this. We decide to grab it before we finish pours. Two normal sized cups. I’m trying to get my funky lid on and we’re chit chatting. I don’t realize what Ems doing. Walk back to the seats and she’s like wait, I just paid $11.00. Which is the moment I think just confused her. Walk back up and ask, “hey I’m pretty sure these are free today” and we’re looking at the story with Lauren. “Oh those are the good hot chocolates. The Swiss miss here is the free one.

She pauses, realizes she never asked us and is very nice about it and having known us enough says hold on we’ll refund right now. But we had to raise the issue. It’s feels like a massive bait and switch. First, tell us next time when you have a day you are offering “FREE HOT CHOCOLATE” second, they have plenty of money. How cheap is it that they can’t offer their own? That’s not a great look.

Given my time in retails when younger, I’m pretty sure that you could make the case legally that free hot chocolate is free hot chocolate. Just as an incorrect tag on an item is always correct.

The woman was sweet about it so it’s not her. Just the whole experience was not great in a few aspects. You can afford better Nate. Also she did say we haven’t been explaining it to people so we weren’t the only ones. I’m being fair and critical when it’s needed

Reminds me of the time I went to treehouse for the “free beer” and they had a cooler of bud light in the corner
