Correct me if I’m wrong, but didn’t Nate say that Good Morning would be brewed only with Maxwell Road maple syrup, which has been out of business for about 9 years?

I just got rid of my “I’m here with Dean” T-shirt in a Salvation Army donation pick up last year. I don’t know what the hell possessed me to buy that.

I guess it kind of makes sense that if it's technically different, it wouldn't be GM... but let's get real. They release versions of beers with different hop bills and still call it the same name. Not only that, but Treat first release is a completely different beer than Treat now, and it's kept the same name and label.

As if anyone could tell the difference between maple syrups after the entire brew process is completed.

    Yes,

There’s some information loosely out there in the googles if anyone wants to dig. But not too much.

Yeah this very true. I think with GM, it’s the only beer that could actually do some damage if released. So why give anyone the opportunity.
If anything the lore offers positive.

My gut is we’ve also had a beer from them that was close to it. But, that difference is what sets it apart.

However, if anyone wants to taste something similar to what GM was. Try to get a pour or bottle of Topplings Morning Delight. There are no local imperial stouts I can think of that are even remotely close to it. Last time we had it here locally on tap(2024?) it truly was a mind bend. It’s hard to explain the impact of the maple, the mouthfeel, the impeccable coffee flavor. The overall package is in a league of its own. I do really enjoy Nate’s stouts now. But they all tend to have a similar house flavor. The maple is never that dominant and it’s not the intense coffee flavor I want. Even in the “shot” series. Again, I still love them and think they’re a tier above most others.

If he did brew GM again it truly would need to taste, smell and feel like a Mornin Delight or even a KBBS. Given a majority of their crowd never had heard of Treehouse at the time of GM. I’m sure it would be a beer life altering experience. But, if it was similar to their other stouts, the hype could damage them. To a slight extent.

Nates a very calculated decision making individual. I’m sure he has very specific reasons.

Talk of Dean got me curious, and it seems the Eric Granger v TH, Nate, & Dean was settled in September. Confidential terms, obv, and dismissed with prejudice 9/16/25.

    Ha. I remember this dude.

He had a religious experience when he tried Green for the first time (same tbh) but then he circled back around to not really caring about hazy IPA's and wanting only west coast style. Not sure what he's up to nowadays.

I remember watching this the day it dropped.

Now, real OG Ryerson Behind the Bar fans will remember the infamous pre-pasteurized Bourbon County infection video of his. It was truly an honest and in your face review and opening of spoiled and not spoiled bottles. All while being quite angry and hammered. Goose Island did not like this video. It not longer exists on the internet and I’m pretty sure he destroyed it as well. “Lets open another, fucking infected”

Perhaps one of the best beer videos I’ve ever seen.

I’ve seen that video and I discovered him pretty much at the end of his review era. Must have been removed more recently (relatively speaking). I remember he was starting a brewery, but it was either right before or in the middle of covid, so not good timing at all. I’m guessing it didn’t work out, but hopefully I’m wrong

I think there is still a video where he discusses it and some bottles.

I wish I had the other. It was much more surly.

He’s seems to be doing great! They have Friction Beer up and running in KC. When they started their pod with Joe(jows arcade) and Kraj they randomly said someone give us a name. I just wrote to them Shelf Words and then it stuck. Google some of those and take a listen. They’re pretty long but there is some laugh out loud shit in them.

After this past weekend’s visit to the Saratoga Springs location, I’ve now been to all 7 locations.

No surprise, very nice location - looks like it would be especially nice during warmer months, very large outdoor space. Quiet and laid back when I was there.
