I thought it was pretty good, just a bit too sweet and thick. Tree Of Bliss was coffee/orange/vanilla and it was way better, hoping we get that again

I have a can of the regular and the vanilla so I’ll see how they compare.

Blender King is SUPER good. In the top three for their King series imo, along with Guava & Creamsicle.

yeah I’m looking forward to the next full ba bw release. I mentioned this before, I thought the last batch of blended tree of life (b3) was one of the best barleywines I’ve had

Isn’t one year super young for a bourbon?

yes, I don't know if bourbon has a minimum age, but scotch must be aged in a barrel for 3 years for it to meet the requirements to be called scotch whiskey

Two forms of bourbon have a minimum age requirement. Those labeled "straight" (2 years) and "bottled-in-bond" (4 years). TH said on Twitter they are using smaller barrels to mature the bourbon faster. Typical bourbon barrel is 53 gallons, they used 5, 10, 15, and 30 gallon barrels (plus 53 gallon barrels that will age longer). By using smaller barrels more of the bourbon touches the wood so theoretically the bourbon should extract full flavor faster.

This batch of Tree Of Life is leaps and bounds better than the last. It has a flavor profile more in line with world class barleywines like Straight Jacket

Unfortunately, I've gotta call Moment of Truth a bit of a disappointment. I had about 1/3 of the bottle last night and really wasn't feeling it, so I capped it and put it back in the fridge to have the rest this evening. (Held up perfectly, btw - if you pour carefully and get the cap decently well back on, you can almost always get two days out of a stout in the fridge in my opinion.)

I'm definitely liking it better than last night, but it's just OK. Has a bit of the quadruple shot intense sweetness thing going on that I don't love about those beers. Both Persist and Moment of Clarity have been way more balanced in my opinion. I actually think that's kind of the funny thing about the barrel program there - hype and $$ would dictate that the beers that sit in their entirety in barrels and then get bottled are more desirable, but in reality the blends have the added benefit of a QA check for the brewer's exact intention much closer to the point where they're called finished.

I’ve stated before that I’ve been vastly underwhelmed by their barrel aged stouts, even the blended ones. Not sure why, but the barrel just isn’t showing up in them. I’m probably going to drink my MOT this weekend and I’ll post my thoughts here

I saw that TH posted to Twitter 2 hours ago that winners were notified. Someone on the socials also posted that there were 400 bottles and $27,708 was raised for the Northeast Wilderness Trust, so it was roughly 1:70 odds per ticket. I got 10 tix but no dice.

I considered entering, but figured some would buy 100+ tickets and I would have bought maybe 5. Regardless, donations well raised!

As mentioned, more hyped for the ba beers to come

I saw Nate posted a story yesterday with freshly filled barrels. Pretty exciting.

I’ve had persist 2-3 times on draft over the past month or two. Man, is it as delicious as ever.

I have to come here and be fair after I was talking crap about the stouts. This Space Time Continuum Coconut is fantastic. I get lots of bourbon and barrel character, which was missing for me on other offerings. Maybe they just needed experience and time to dial things in. Really good stuff

Just a general question for folks with lots of experience with TH stouts: how long does something like Moment of Clarity hold up? We love that beer in our house, but we don't drink sweet, thick stouts all that often - if we bought a full case next time they release it but only drank 1-2/week, would it still sparkle for the 3-5 months it would take to drink through?

You'll be fine with that. I had a 6 month old one recently and it wasn't perfect but it was still so damn good
