Just looked at the photo of the Double Double and it looks dark malt not coffee beans. Small screen on phone, wondering if anyone else sees that

Just double checked, you’re right, that’s definitely malt.

    No mistakes made!

JP Citra + Galaxy has fallen off hard. Had it a week ago and it was one of the better IPAs I’ve had all year.

I have another can. I’ll try it tonight or tomorrow. Had one earlier in the week and it was still awesome.

That's odd. Should be good for at least a month or more if kept cold.

Going by the last few pages It's obvious that Tree House was better before the lawsuit.

It would be interesting to get my hands on this again and have it soon. I’m so curious how I’d feel about it after recently having draft pours of Toppling Morning Delight. Which, in 2023 to me is a legitimately flawless perfect beer. That first sip blew me away in a way I’ve rarely experienced. I don’t know if GM would hold up now considering the plethora of stouts now.

Just to add a little humor for when us cackling about beer is insufferable. If I had to pin point another visceral feeling in my body and mind prior to tasting MD it was my 30th birthday. As a gag joke my mother always knew I loved the mint black, white, and brown sprinkles you could get for cakes in the 80’s. They seemed to phase out late 80’s or so. I tried for years to find them pre good internet. She then scoured the internet around 2010/11 and found a 1 lb container of them and gave it to me in front of my family. I ate a spoonful and instantly knew the taste, smell and feeling from being a kid and was floored. Ate that shit so fast. Anyways, that had a very similar experience where you wish someone else could feel and taste what your brain is trying to comprehend and experience because to you it’s the pinnacle of flavor in that moment and you almost kind of black out. Anyways, MD did it. Not sure Good Morning would now.

That sounds like a true ratatouille moment.

I had a similar thought when I had MD a few years ago at The Publick House. I am not sure how producing the same recipe as the last batch of GM would hold up these days. I'd like to think it would hold up well. It was overly decadent to my taste. A lot of residual sugar. Something I liked but didn't love, although I do think a lot of folks would love it were it released again.

The interesting thing for me is that I don’t remember Tree House stouts being nearly as sweet 5-7 years ago. Sometime around 2019ish I feel like they got waaaay more sugary. Either they changed or my tastes changed, but I liked the average Tree House stout much more in the days before DS switched from bottles to cans than I do now.

Ironically, Persist is arguably the closest beer they make today to Good Morning being the only lactose free coffee maple stout save for some draft double shots, and it’s by far my favorite TH stout.

Separate from the Tree House recipe angle of it all, I don’t think people’s tastes in stouts have changed the way they have for IPAs, and I would be surprised if a 2023 GM felt like a significant step down from how we remember it.

Moment of Truth was possibly the best stout they’ve released. Essentially barrel aged Good Morning. I haven’t had the recent double barrel release, or that many non-milk stouts from them, but that one was crazy good

Was able to try what I’m assuming is the 2023 MD on draft back in April - absolutely outstanding stout, balanced to near perfection even though I rated it a 4.75 lol. First time ever trying any vintage.

I’ve always wanted to try a release so when I saw it on the Blind Tiger’s untappd menu, the uber was bringing us there within 30 minutes. Good times..

Was able to snag the #26 spot for TH check ins in the Untappd year end review. To be honest, I’d say a majority of the IPAs I’ve had have been at minimum similar in profile and taste (very fruit forward). With the standouts being their NZ hop variants. On average I’ve enjoyed R&B, Noble Savage & Fidens IPAs more. They’re just harder to come by unless you drive far or have a cheap proxy.

If anything TH stouts have definitely been the more unique and “fun” ones to try - especially the barrel aged ones.
