I do agree with you for the most part, but I would say that it is generally accepted that you absolutely shouldn't age IPAs, whereas it is also generally accepted that stouts can age well...and even if people know coffee falls off, i still see people doing 5+ year verticals of KBS, so people really don't seem to care too much about that part. so by putting DS in cans, you are going to have a lot more people aging them for extended periods...hell I hear of people holding onto their growlers for 4+ months as it is, and even though they say that they don't fall off much, i'm sure TH doesn't exactly love that...

Experiencing things generally has more educational value than being told things. It's not like you can get the experience of drinking a fresh Tree House IPA just by reading the tasting notes. It's one thing to be told that coffee falls off in these beers, but it's another to do the vertical for yourself and really get an understanding of how the beer evolves over time, even if it's not for the better. Personally I totally trust Nate about when this beer is best consumed, but if I had half a case of the stuff in cans, I'd probably squirrel one or two of them away just to satisfy my own curiosity.

Not my brewery, but if it were my decision, I'd put a clear, obvious statement on the can about storing the beer cold and drinking it fresh. If people want to ignore that statement and age it, well, that's the "ski at your own risk" section of the mountain.

I recently traded for a growler of double shot that was filled in September of 2014. I didn't regret it at all. However, I do agree that it should be consumed fresh. But I was really curious, especially given the discussion here. I found the coffee to be faint, with a really fudge like effect on the over all taste. Still carbed too. I did question the restraint of the original owner. I like to bring my wife to Tree House and load up on Double Shot, it's gone within two weeks.

Heading over to Treehouse for the first time this week. Silly question, but do they take credit cards? I want to be there at open and understand there might be a line, but should I arrive before it opens, like a bit early...15min? 30? That way I can get to the front of the line? Will I be given a cardboard box for the cans I buy? Anything else I should know? Thanks for the help...

Yes on credit cards. They will give you a box. People show up much earlier than 15 or 30 mins. Haven't been other than Wednesdays in a while, so I don't know the exact times to show up early, but in some cases its more than an hour depending on the offerings. Other than that the crowd will help with any other questions.

If I show up early, will I just line up at the door with everyone else? I was actually planning on going tomorrow, Wednesday, but figured it still might be a bit busy because some people have the holiday off. So what time would you suggest showing up tomorrow and what would the wait be. I don't mind waiting, just trying to figure it all out. Thanks!

I would assume that one choice of can at 8pp, you wouldnt need to worry about wait times. But then again you know what they say about assumptions......

They are planning a second canning run tomorrow so it will be more than one option.

Is it safe to assume there will only be two options at open tomorrow then? Or do they sumtimees surprise you?

They've recently been releasing two new cans for Wed and then runs for Thurs and Friday. Sometimes there are left overs for Wed but they sold out last weekend. Obviously things change, but that is the last few at least.

So do you guys think 4 can runs will be the norm now that Wednesdays are a thing now? Planning on doing TH -> Armsby Abbey this Thursday. 3 options would certainly be a thing of beauty (with my trusty fiancé mule). I went last month when they had a bonkers limit of 42pp.

What is this, the 4th week in a row for Julius? Is Julius now a regular weekly canning?

I think the general response to this question lately has been that weekly julius is the goal, but they aren't quite at the point where they are going to guarantee a fresh batch canned for the start of every week.
