Probably not still around, but Big Bad Baptisa I thought had a superb mouthfeel and great coffee flavor. One of the best distro coffee stouts IMO.

Just to name a few of the more widely distributed to your area, (I believe), have you tried Speedway, BORIS, DORIS, Even More Jesus, Bell's Expedition, Founder's Imperial, or Ten Fidy? As well as On Fleek (ignore the dumb name)? These are are very substantial, rich, dense flavorful non-barrel aged stouts.

Even Palo Santo Marron, a supposed Brown Ale, has quite a body on it.

And some less widely distributed but still stellar non-barrel aged stouts would be Marshal Zhukov, Hel & Verdoemenis, Black Metal, Bruery non-barrel aged stouts like Maids Milking, and of course there's Dark Lord and Darkness.

Even locally to Mass, I've had Exhibit A Sunday Paper thrown in as an extra once and was roundly impressed.

Sounds like Treehouse has some fans of @pftcommenter with "Is Joe Flacco Elite" on the bottom of today's Green cans[IMG]

Sadly Bells distro stops right at the NY/MA border. But yes, Expedition is a fantastic recommendation!

It's not a coffee stout but I'm a big fan of Darkest Night by down the road. There's also Breakfast Exorcism by clown shoes. I've never had Doubleshot so i dont know what in particular you're looking for.

I agree. While a lot of the stouts people are recommending are definitely delicious, I don't see any that are real comparable to the soft but vibrant mouthfeel of DS. The closest I can think of right now is Imperial Stout Trooper by NEBCO. I had it for the first time a couple months ago and was pleasantly surprised with the texture.

Like others have mentioned, I'd say PM Dawn and Night & Day are your closest bets. Nothing I've had off of the shelf comes close.

Is Double Shot a Milk Stout? If it is, it probably has F'n lactose in it. If that's the case, then you are going to be hard pressed to find that creamy element in non-lactose beers. I was at Springdale the other day and they call it 'milk sugar,' but it's lactose by another name. It pisses me off, as has been well documented on BA, and should be prominently disclosed.

EDIT: Yes, I'm lactose intolerant (answering next post).

If I show up around 4:30 on Friday, can someone give me a rough idea of what time I would be out? I know its not exact, but am I looking at like 5, 6, 7 etc?

If you're only getting cans and nothing insane was dropped, I would say 5

Double Shot is not a milk stout (that would be Single Shot).

    - quoted wrong person...but u get the idea.

TWSS is as well as single shot. I agree that any beers with lactose should have it listed.

TWSS makes it obvious, SS not so much, DS isn't but still has the "milk chocolate" descriptor which we lactose intolerant usually take as a stay away warning

Agreed. The mouthfeel on Double Shot has really diminished my ability to appreciate other coffee stouts. That being said, PM Dawn is the closest I've had in terms of both mouthfeel and flavor. Plus, cans of it stuck around for weeks last time it was released, so you could stock up in a way that may never be possible with Double Shot :slight_frown:

Putting categories aside (milk/sweet stout), if you're looking for a bold, creamy, cold brew coffee type vibe, then I would give NEBCO Coffee Breath a try

Not really a huge fan of Trillium's stouts, tbh. They're mostly good, with the one true exception being Dusk Trill Dawn (which is amazing) but DS is on an entirely different level, in my opinion.
