Reminds me of Hill Farmstead a year or two ago, or even TG a few years ago...only much worse. I think its just because there are so many more people into craft beer now that have to have the 'IT' beer of the moment, demand skyrockets quickly (i.e Hoof Hearted). Sure, I'd like to try Treehouse but I'm definitely not trading my hard-earned whales for regularly brewed IPAs. There are a SH*T TON of great IPAs that are much more accessible. In a year, I imagine Treehouse will be more easily attainable and some other brewery will take over the hype train. I'll try it then.

Trillium is awesome and much easier to get. I'm cool with that for now.

This. Treehouse can't even make enough beer for locals so once you have people from all over the country chasing basically every release it gets stupid fast.

Tree House is killing it right now and with the increased popularity of both beer appreciation and beer trading you have a lot of folks who don't know the ropes dominating the trade boards. (which by the way are a cesspool of ridiculous gouging and profiteering)

Given time in the game, people will feel less compelled to chase the shiny new toy and will have learned from their mistakes. Want to try Julius? Great, it's out like every two weeks so just wait until you can make a reasonable trade or buy a plane ticket to Boston. I've also found that trades like this are more easily completed at lower volumes of cans or with greater variety. Instead of chasing a person's whole allocation, shoot for a sampling of cans if you've never tried and expand with other beers to make shipping worth it.

It's not like these trades happen to people without their consent; if someone wants to give up the world for a TH beer, all you can do is point out the disparity and not make lopsided trades yourself.

As somebody said before, the only way around this is to always go $4$.

Does it annoy me what people are asking for regarding stouts for some NE popular beers these days, yes.

But having said that, if a person is willing to trade limited release stouts/sours for regularly released NE hops, that is their call. Go to ISO:FT forum now and you'll see someone asking for a Toppling Goliath stout or Rare '15 + Vanilla Rye/similar for random assortment of Trillium and other NE brews. If someone is willing enough to make that trade, all the more power to them.

My personal preference is not to trade limited release stouts/sours for PA/IPA/DIPA. I like stouts:stouts and PA/IPA/DIPA : PA/IPA/DIPA and it's what I do vast majority of the time (I think I did BCBCS + BCBBW for some King Sue multiples one time though). I like to throw in local 3Floyds, Pipeworks and Half-Acre PA/IPA/DIPA stuff as extras.

Im extremely greatful to have a friend who lives 30 minutes from TreeHouse. The gouging and trades I see for a few cans are absolutley disgusting. I myself would never partake in the act of trading top of the line BA Stouts/Sours for some IPAs that start to die immediately after being canned.
