I had found a site that was selling a tri-clamp sight glass a while back, fast forward to today and I cant recall who or where it was from. Anybody got any ideas?
I hook it up in my inline oxygenator assembly (post plate chiller) to view the rate at which the wort is being oxygenated. It also comes in handy since I'm able to tell when my oxygen tank is empty!
I don't see an option to purchase them separately, but psychobrew kettles use them so maybe you could email the company? http://www.psychobrewllc.com/pages/kettles.html
You can always make your own as seen here: http://www.homebrewtalk.com/f11/sight-glass-keggle-370116/#post4621893
Only thing I've come across: http://www.glaciertanks.com/TriClamp_Sight_Glasses-Sight_Level_with_2_Valves.html
Just out of curiosity, why? Not sure I see the point of a clamp-on level gague for a kettle, its not like sanitary design matters there. On a related note, I know for a fact that half inch triclamps exist, I've seen them but only on one particular brand of imported commercial scale equipment. Has anyone ever seen them for sale online? It seems like that would be a much more appropriate size for homebrew applications but all I ever seem to see for hombrewing are the 1.5".
Yah Ive been leaning that route (I dont want the valves like on the glacier tank version) to Nickfl, there are several reasons why I want the triclamp Ease of removal vs threaded Which can then allow quick use other devices in place of the sight glass I can easily cap off the holes allowing alternative uses for the HLT in which a sight glass can cause issues Im moving everything towards triclamp = interchangeability of parts Pizzazz
Just don't forget that when you read "1.5 inch tri-clamps", that is usually the outer diameter of the clamp and the inner diameter hole that the liquid flows through is generally much smaller. So, while "0.5 inch tri-clamps" do exist, I would assume they would create more restriction than even a homebrewer would want in kettle ball valve applications.
There is a good triclamp pipe chart here: http://www.stpats.com/index.htm It doesn't go down below 1", but it does explain that "TriClamp Size is determined by the outside diameter of the pipe, NOT the outside diameter of the ferrule." So a 1/2 triclamp fitting is going to have something like 0.37" inside diameter for the pipe. edit: not sure the above link actually goes where I meant it to, but if you click on sanitary fittings/valves you can see the chart.
morebeer.com, brewershardware.com, brewandgrow.com, homebrewstuff.com, weldlessfittings.com, etc. actually list them by the outside diameter of the ferrule. So perhaps it's more of a marketing choice than anything? Perhaps choosing to list them by the outside diameter of the pipe is a commercial brewing standard while choosing to list them by the outside of the ferrule is a homebrewing standard?
