flying up tomorrow.. is it possible to hit both in one day for cam releases? Flying into Hartford in the morning.
Very easy, I have done it many times. Trillium opens at 11 and is onle 1.5 hours away. Tree House opens at 5 on Fridays.
Alternatively, get to Tree House an hour or two early, stand around for a bit, leave at 5:05 and get to Trillium sometime before 7. It's very doable and you can even get a brisket burrito at BT's Smokehouse to eat on the road or at Trillium.
Easy-peasy. I do it all the time. Except, for a Friday, you're going to be going backwards. Walk in and out of Trillium in Canton any time from noon on, then backtrack to Monson. Get the hell away from Route 128/I95 well before 3:30 p.m. Unless you like sitting in traffic.
be careful driving on 128 this weekend...they are taking down a bridge in Needham and closing the highway in both directions and diverting traffic via local streets. it's definitlely going to add time to any type of drive involving 128/95.
This is terrible advice, get guaranteed Trillium first, then hit the road early to be at TH and guarantee a full allotment. The odds of he or she getting out of Treehouse on time, back on the road, 0 traffic and trying to deal with 128 are slim to none. Please do not give this advice to someone from Maine who probably doesn't get to do this trip often.
If I'm reading the OP's post correctly, I think their aim is to be able to hit Tree House first, because they are flying into Hartford and heading back up to Maine from there, hence finding one of the only circumstances in history where Monson isn't a massively inconvenient place to stop. All things being equal, with their hours of operation and relative availability, Trill first makes infinitely more sense. But given OP's situation, this would entail a great deal of backtracking. In theory, if you're flying into Hartford in the morning, you can get to Tree early enough to be in and out at the open. It's still going to entail some inevitable traffic but if on the road by, let's say 4:15 (which I was after arriving at 3:15 last Friday and still getting growlers), it would definitely be possible to get to either Trillium location well ahead of their 7:30 closing times. Google Maps has it at 6:10 with standard traffic at that time. Obviously there are variables - TH not opening as early, for instance, or that bridge closure. It definitely looks doable to me. I just would say there's not a ton of room for error and the timing/hours/availability make such a trip less enjoyable than it could be. Hopefully Charlton changes that.
so it turns out we are going to drive from Hartford to trillium, hit night shift and then go directly to tree house. Really appreciate all the tips on traffic areas to avoid
@bobbert: @bittym87's rationale is what I was thinking. You will be guaranteed to be out of Tree House by 5:15, get a full allotment and it will minimize your driving since Hartford is right down the street from Tree House. Or feel free to ignore our terrible advice, according to @Jbrews.
Lived in Boston for years and MetroWest. It's a nightmare all around and part of the reason we got the hell out of there.
Enjoy! @bobbert - one last note on this. I'm not speaking from experience, but I've heard good thing about Exhibit A Brewing (in the old Jack's Abby space in Framingham) and if you have time, it will only add 25-30 minutes to your trip if you want to grab some stuff from there during your drive to Tree House (Exit 13 off the Mass Pike).
I live in New Hampshire, too, but I grew up in the Boston burbs and I've been driving in Boston traffic for forty years and I know enough to know that you don't try to drive from Canton to Everett - or, frankly, anywhere else inside of 128 - on a Friday afternoon after three o'clock.
