    News:

"You guys like cans. A lot.

...we're pumped to announce we're changing the packaging format for all of our hop forward beers from 750ml / 25.4oz bottles into 16oz cans!

Batch sizes and case counts will go up as we get our legs under us.

Cans will be available at both breweries, but please note we won't be able to split the cases evenly on the same day as packaging for logistical reasons (so fewer cases available in Boston vs Canton on day of packaging). Thanks on behalf of the whole trillium team for your support to help us achieve this incredible milestone."

First two can releases in June (end of the month) were Congress Street and Melcher Street. Cans come in four packs but you can buy individual cans, if you like. Yes, the date is on the bottom.

    Finally:

Let's not overdo the price discussion this month. More than enough was written in July and people can browse last month's thread, if they want to read about it. Let's keep it about the beer this month.

Headed up to Boston today and will be at the FP location late afternoon, any chance DDH FPPA is still around? Also, is there any schedule to their canning runs? Aka, will there be new cans today or tomorrow? Any info would be awesome, thanks guys!

No guarantee on the DDH. Follow their social media and their website. There is no set schedules for canning runs, when the beers ready it gets canned.

I know headroom was an August release last year. Anyone know if they plan on bringing that back this year?

It's not on the "Up Next" list on the website, but there have been a few older posts suggesting it could be back around VT Hop Jam (August 20).

I'm certain that the merits of the way that this brewery operates has been well discussed, but I thought another compliment is worth bringing up. The nightmare of chasing SOS at various bottle shops, as an example, where the lack of transparency on availability or distribution makes it all just not worth it relative to the ease of Trillium. The whole "scarcity makes a beer taste better" thing goes right out the window with this brewery. It's not "you can only have six cans" or whatever else the restrictions tend to be that now tick me off. I was once on the side of the argument that the breweries were limited by ingredients or capacity from making more of their best beer. I don't believe that now in many cases. Rather, all those folks who said that the breweries are controlling supply to raise the hype now can just say "if Trillium can make 600 cases of DDH Fort Point alongside hundreds of cases of Cutting Tiles and Pocket Pigeon and Fort Point, why can't the other hoppy producers do the same?" It makes me only want to buy Trillium until the other breweries get their act together. Compliment/Rant off.

Can anyone tell me the last time Upper Case was released in bottles? I got a bottle recently as part of a BIF but there's no bottled date. I know they usually stamp it near the UPC but it looks like this bottle got missed. The last mention of it that I see on their Instagram is May 18th. I'm hoping it's fresher than that.

There's a June 23 tweet that Upper Case was packaged that day. So your bottle could be from that run.

theres a garage across the street (stillings garage i think its call) that works well (10 bucks flat at night if you get there after 5, you can grab a bite at row34 etc.etc.) during the day you can probably get in and out quickly enough for it to be about 5 bucks. I guess theres probably also street parking around but I've always found the garage to be handy

I've actually thought about this before. It seems like one of the largest hurdles new and even established breweries face is allocating hops, particularly the highly exocic/desired ones(galaxy, nelson). When the focus of these beers is intense hop charging, you need A LOT of hops.I would wager Castle Island would keep brewing BIg Ern if hey could get their hands on the hops, or Treehouse would have not run out of Galaxy this spring.

For some reason Trillium seems immune to hop shortages. Perhaps they bid higher which gives them priority on quality/quantity of hops. It would explain a lot about pricing. Or maybe JC sold his soul for an endless supply of mosaic.

Either way, I agree with you. I felt this tugging on Saturday morning to drive across the state to get 3 cans of Very Green. I instead opted to hop on the T and grab a mixed case of whatever the hell I felt like. I'm going to Portland next week and I don't even think I'm going to stop at Bissell Brothers.

Also really hoping for a nelson cutting tiles some day.

Most of the brewers I've talked to have had to lock in contracts 1-2 years in advance, and spot availability is limited and pricey. Trillium definitely struggled with their contracts early on, but it seems they've done a good job predicting their growth (see also: planning what size brewery to build) so they've been ok. That being said I think they've struggled with Nelson. Some hops are just hard to get. Even if you have the contract, if the harvest doesn't work out, you may not get it!

Plus then there's the huge variability in hop flavor and aroma depending on farm and harvest time. Hops ain't easy!

Since you are coming from CT, I assume you have a reason to go into the city instead of hitting Canton instead which has tastings available?

Everything you need to know is in this description of this beer.

(park on Summer, take the stairs down to A, you're pretty much there.)
