I seem to remember hearing rumors not too long ago that Trillium will begin distributing their cans to a limited area. Was I just dreaming?

To my knowledge yes — just dreaming.

Trillium was distributing a small amount of cans to CBC Roslindale for the short period of time The Garden at the Roslindale Substation was open this winter, which made sense as it was in the same building. Other than that, nada.

Yeah there was a moment in time where they were distro'd to select stores in the greater boston area (was able to get bottles every week at my local shop) but seems they soon pulled back to meet demand at the breweries.

Wonder if they will build off of their IPA collab with veil and bellwoods. Island shark would be appropriate for the new series and it being shark week.

Redstone in Stoneham and Pemberton Farms in Cambridge used to get cans every once in awhile, but as you said, it's been quite some time.

I actually like what they're doing. Selling out of their breweries they get full margin and don't have to pay for distribution costs. Call me a cynic but I trust that the profit will go at least mostly back into the brewery instead of distributors.

I think there is still a need for independent retailers, however this new model of direct sales at the brewery shifts the power to the brewer. The brewer gets to curate the beer experience in a more complete way, which plays into the culture of beer. Buying beers at a dumpy store to drink them at home is fine and all, but sometimes I want the experience as well.

Everytime I see IPAs sitting on shelves in hot stores I'm reminded of why this is a good thing.

Good thing you said it here. Post this in the Treehouse thread and you’ll likely be drawn and quartered.

Too bad the customer still gets to pay full price despite having to schlep the beer from the brewery.

I've never wandered over there myself, but from what I've heard, it sounds like that thread needs its own website.

Trillium has two retail locations, open seven days a week, in densely populated areas. And the beer gardens. And they distribute kegs to bars and restaurants.

It would be cool if there was some retail distro as well, but they do a much better job at making their beer accessible than Tree House does.
