hahaha... you really got the spin down! I can make it there and back to treehouse in 2 hours (60 miles) on a Thursday night I can't make it there and back from Trillium in 2 hours (20 miles) on a Thursday night.

    Rural breweries brah!

I waited 3 hours at Hill Farmstead this summer for growler fills when Molen works of love was there. Awesome breweries get busy. Your point?

This thread is fantastic. Further proof that everyone has their own tastes/preferences.

I for one have lost interest in Treehouse. I taste too much grains in their IPAs. I prefer bright, hoppy, and somewhat malty. SoS and DDH Melcher FTW

My subjective taste preferences (ignoring the convenience/lines factor):

Tree House > HF > Trillium

I give TH the home state bias win. Close to a tie with HF.

Trillium's non-hoppy offerings (including their stouts) have been very hit or miss with me. That said, they are still my second favorite MA brewery.

I think HF is my overall favorite but I probably rate Fort Point and Hopcelot my definitive favorite NE brews.

I can't remember whether it was PM Dawn or Night and Day but the last stout I had from Trillium was for sure in Double Shot's ballpark.

That was before the new taproom, right? My point is: you can get world class beers without waiting hours of the brewery is setup to accommodate a crowd and you do a little planning.

I stand by the double shot reference but the other two aren't a fair comparison. Maybe you didn't have the latest PM Dawn? I actually don't care for Good Morning past a few sips. It was interesting at first but I got bored with it pretty quick. I'd tick a de molen over it any day. My palate is still good but obviously it's mine and that could be the problem

Looks like the age old adage "takes one to know one" fits quite well here. You just rifled off 5 posts in a row defending your pick! Also used bro and brah more often then I'd like to see.

For me, it's trillium first, hf and th tied for second if I had to pick. That's just one man's preference though. Your palate may vary.

As for the OPs initial comment, heady was what first ruined other beers for me!

No definitely with the new tap room. And once again you don't wait hours at Treehouse unless something crazy is on. For example I waited 45 minutes for a Good Morning Growler last time it was on. Hours is a extreme exaggeration. And saying that Treehouse isn't equip to handle crowds is an exaggeration too. I wonder how Trillium would handle 1300 customers in day?

I waited at least 2Xlonger that day at Hill than any of my trips to Treehouse.

I don't care to and don't have to rank Trillium, HF, Tree House; however, I will say that Trillium hthatas ruined me personally just because it is easily accessible (since I work less than a mile away) so I never buy good shelf IPAs. If there was no Trillium I'd probably buy things like Mass Rising or Santilli a lot more often to get my hop fix in between trips to Monson and VT.

Ok so here comes so Bias. I have a pretty short walk to HF which I guess means im spoiled. I think our beers ATM are tasting the best that I have ever had em. I get the chance to try TH and Trillium from time to time as people drop them off. TH is pretty good though often has this yeast ester that I am not a fan of but man Trillium is straight up mud water. I know murky is sexy to most now and I'm not calling our beers crystal clear but the handful of times I've had a beer from them I can't finish it because of all the yeast. Smells great in the glass but looks like mud and the mouth is all off because of it. Maybe it will change with the new place.

No way that's yeast floating in the cloudier trill beers -- if it is -- its got a damn fine hop flavor to it.

I don't know. But I like the way whatever It is tastes. It sure doesn't taste yeasty. This HF beer that I had a few weeks ago at Armsby looked pretty damn muddy to me -- and it tasted great. Embrace the opaqueness I say.

There is hop haze from dry hopping (which can be cleared up) and something HF has had for a long time and there is the mud stuff I have seen in the Trillium beer. All the Trillium stuff I have had has come from bottles which have the yeast all sediment all in the bottle. Do the bottle condition? I was under the impression they don't which is why all that stuff in the bottle has always been so off putting. If I get a chance to get some growlers I will have to give em a try and see if it is there as well.

I love that we have "Trillium is too cloudy!" and "Trillium isn't cloudy enough!" controversies raging simultaneously.
