You're a bit late to the party with the first world problems comment. Though extra points awarded for the hash tag use.

Eta: just went back and looked, turns out you weren't the first with the hash tag either. Oh well.

I absolutely love trilliums beers and HF beers. I have been patronizing hill farmstead since their first month of business and more or less the same with Trillium. I can say with certainty that Trilliums beers are muddy as all hell, while HF may have some hop haze, Congress St looks like you poured orange paint in a glass. BUTTTTT no off flavors, and absolutely world class. To say that Trillium and HF beers look basically the same is far from true. Ive never had IPA's that are as mucky looking as Trillium, but Ive also had few that are better.

The bottom line is that we are splitting hairs here, its a matter of personal preference. I question anyone's opinion that can say that any of these breweries are horrible, we all very lucky to be able to drink these beers.

Anyone saying HF beers have gone to shit since X (insert whatever here) are absolutely fooling themselves.

just talking Edward -- you noticed no change in 2015? Not saying "gone to shit" - just saying a change and not for the better.

Maybe it's time for a new analogy, since all I can picture is Larry slamming cheap beers on a cross country flight during his playing days a la Wade Boggs.

To make it modern: Steph Curry, LeBron James and Anthony Davis? (This analogy would have worked better before Curry became superhuman over this past year+.)

Visited the new Trillium Canton brewery this evening. Nice digs, in an office/industrial park not far from I95. From sampling a few, the quality remains top shelf. Brought home growlers of Melcher Street IPA & Launch Pale Ale. Very comparable to Hill Farmstead - I'd love to try them side by side.

Am I reading the website correctly in that all you can currently get there are the 2 oz. samples? And if that is true, does anyone know if they are pursuing a full pour licence for the future?

Congrats to the Trillium crew for the big upgrade. Well earned and deserved.

There have been better and worse batches of Edward, IMHO, stretching back as long as I've been trying it. Even the "worse" ones are still a first rate APA, and the overall trend has been that the beer has been getting better. The Fall '14 batches I tried were amazing; on a par with Susan for hoppy goodness. Haven't had one that hit that peak again, but it's still been above the "average" Edward from, say, 2013 or so.

Yeah, 4 2oz samples (their choice, they wouldn't let me try the IPA I wanted to buy.) So not overly generous - they're no Ipswich! I asked about the pour licence and it's not been decided yet.

What do you mean "their choice"? You can only get samples of certain beers that they choose? Weird

The have a printed list on the bar of the 4 beers they're pouring for samples and you're able to pick whichever you want from there.

They said it would operate this way when they opened.

A diverse selection of beers is available for a limited number of complimentary 2 oz. samples. The sampling menu will rotate frequently and will not always include all of the beers we have available for purchase.

I'm guessing it has a lot to do with the samples are free, and they don't want people hanging around and drinking 9+ (there's 9 beers on at Canton right now) free 2oz samples.

Meh, this is the same way they did it at the Fort Point Brewery shortly after they originally offered any samples. got to the point where you couldn't even get a sample of an IPA/PA some days. They will quickly nix samples at the Canton location as they did in Boston. It's a matter of time.

They stopped serving samples in Boston for legal reasons. I assume they have everything straightened out in Canton and will be able to keep offering samples.

Pretty sure they stopped because it got too busy to deal with samples + growler + bottle sales.

I disagree. They have a separate bar area dedicated for samples that doesn't interfere with the sale of bottles/growlers. If anything I hope they eventually offer full pours but that's another monster and will need more space/logistics in place.
