Why , Why, Why is NJ such a pariah? what laws do we have that makes no one want to ship here?

I think Foam is shipping to Jersey iirc.

    Edit: nope, scratch that.

I don't know the laws specifically but they have to do with protecting distributors and liquor stores etc. Sarene brings in other half, rather than allow direct delivery. I'm sure others know the precise laws but you can thank distributors and liquor store owners.

I think that Trillium is going to sell a lot of beer in a very short period of time tomorrow morning.

I'm usually unhappy about our Commonwealth's arcane alcohol laws. This time - I'm not!

It is very odd that we are only allowed to order 96oz. of any given brand in a year.

I’m curious Jeff. Have you seen the rules? No more than three four packs in a single order. Only one order per month. Only one single four pack of any single beer allowed per YEAR. Add $25 shipping for a 12 pack and sadly I’m out.

Equilibrium sends two cases to PA for $30.

I think Aslin and The Veil have similar rules they need to follow.

    Because our local politicians suck.

Half-joking aside, I read somewhere that breweries located outside the state are not allowed to ship beer directly to customers in NJ. That’s why no Tired Hands, no Foam, etc....I’m sure @jesskidden can answer this question with much more thorough detail and accuracy.

EDIT: didn’t see your reply @stairway2heavn . Understandable, yet still pretty ridiculous if you ask me; especially when you look at other states in the region. Gotta protect the beer distributors and liquor store chains from going under. Y’know, because a handful of craft breweries shipping into the state are really gonna cut off a big slice of their pie. Pretty much the same rationale of why we can’t have a brewing company make a cheeseburger: nobody would ever want to buy a cheeseburger at a regular restaurant ever again. (Yeah, I’m aware there’s a whole lot more nuance to this discussion, I’m just being an asshole)

Actually I did think of exactly what you mention, the whole ban on classic brewpubs with food service ban that, until more recently (as people cared less about food options at breweries) was a real hindrance.
NJ is no doubt corrupt, but my take is, what lobbying group is going to push for TH/Veil... or most importantly Suarez... deliveries? Now if a few hundred to better yet thousand craft beer aficionados want to throw in for the formation of a formal lobbying group and outspend the alcohol lobby I'm happy to make a donation and some calls lol. Squeaky wheel etc.

Its people going for the 'shiny new thing'. It will be interesting how long Trillium will be viewed as shiny especially considering what @PA-Michigander posted above of "Add $25 shipping for a 12 pack and sadly I’m out."

    Cheers!

I could see doing it every once in a while, especially for very particular beers . . . I've still never had a beer like Dialed-In with Sauvignon Blanc juice, Cutting Tiles might be my favorite honey-added beer ever, and I'd buy The Streets again in a heartbeat. I'll be interested to see how rigorously they enforce these highly specific ounce-per-month and brands-per-year constraints, too; it seems like a lot of work.

You make some valid points, Nick. That said, I’m a sucker, I know I’m a sucker, and I will probably order some every once in a while. Even with restrictions, it’s a pretty great time to be a beer lover in PA with so many locals plus out of state breweries like Trillium, Other Half, Kane, Veil, etc. able to deliver beer to our doorstep.

Responding to myself, ha, I wonder if every variant of a particular beer counts as its own "brand," e.g., if Mosaic Cutting Tiles is different than Citra Cutting Tiles, etc. Hopefully so . . .

Well, from my homebrewing experience Mosaic tastes quite different from Citra (for my palate) so I would state these two different brands are different.

Having stated that I find that many of the Juicy/Hazy IPAs with minor tweaking of hop blends taste more similar than different. The breweries (e.g., Tired Hands, etc.) will give these sorts of beers differing names (brands) but for my palate they often just 'blur' together so...

    Cheers!

I have been wondering whether other breweries shipping to PA are either taking a different approach in interpreting the rules, or just not following them. I have definitely had more than 192 fl oz. shipped to me in one purchase.

if that were the case why would any of these breweries bother?

We all have bucket list breweries and I've checked a bunch off since this lockdown started and there's more shipping. But trillium is on my list so if they shipped to nj I'd eat the 25 bucks at least once
