    Hello All,
I am from Sacramento, California and I will be heading to Boston next week for business and was trying to find some spots I should check out in Boston. I would like some suggestions on either some breweries or tap houses to go to and what beers I should be looking. I am hoping to try anything that is exclusive to the East Coast/Boston or something that is not readily available on the West coast. I am a lover of Porters and Stouts but I want to try anything that is recommended. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thank you!

Whereabouts are you staying? More often than not, 90% of the "Boston" recommendations people put on here are actually found across the river in Cambridge or Somerville. Not knocking either of those -- they're awesome -- but it can be a hassle to get to depending on where you're staying in Boston and how familiar you are with public transit.

Sorry, the Cambridge Brewing link above is wrong. The correct link is:
    http://www.cambrew.com/

There's something funky about this HTML editor.

I don't drink after runs...except water. But isn't it said that a Gose is a great post-run beer style, given the low ABV as well as the usual additions of salt and fruit peels and whatnot? I know Sam Adams made one (26.2 brew) for the Boston Marathon this year for that very reason.

For stouts/porters we get that CA doesn't check out Berkshire Coffehouse porter, Clown Shoes Vampire Slayer, Founders Breakfast Stout or Porter, Maine Mean Old Tom, Mayflower Porter, Ipswich Oatmeal Stout, Smuttynose Robust or Baltic Porter, Slumbrew Porter.

Cambridge Brewing Company is a great place and I second the suggestion of their Porter(which they always have on draft). They sell growlers of it as well at the brewpub.

Another vote for CBC. Lord Hobo is awesome as well as Deep Ellum. Look out for beers like Jack's Abby Smoke and Dagger, Hoponius Union, or any other of their lagers as well as Pretty Things Meadowlark IPA, St Botolphs, and the Boulevard/P Things Stingo collab. Not a whole lot of local porters/stouts that really stand out with the exception of CBC porter, Bar Harbor Cadillac Mtn Stout, and a few of the dark Allagash offerings.

Wormtown Pro-Am Porter is a good beer. Ipswich oatmeal. Cisco Island Reserve RIS. Mystic Descendant (several variations available) and Powderhouse. Along with the other previously mentioned.

The ales you mention that I have actually tried (Mayflower Porter, Ipswich Oatmeal Stout, and Smuttynose Robust Porter) are all quite good. Smuttynose is my favorite bottled porter.

Another porter worth mentioning is Geary's London Porter. Like Mayflower, this is an English style porter with a very dry finish that comes from the roast, not hops.
