We will be traveling up to Chicago and was hoping anyone knew where I could hopefully get some Pipeworks beers? Thanks!
Binny's (any of them) will have a great selection of Pipeworks. Are you going to be downtown or in the suburbs?
Depends where you are staying but Binny's is usally a safe bet. There are quite a few in the city and in the suburbs. Raspberry abduction is pretty good.
There's this little chain of stores around here called Binnys. I'm assuming you've never heard of it based on your question. They've been know to carry some Pipeworks from time to time. There are these other cool stores called West Lakeview Liquors, The Beer Temple and Capones but I'm guessing you've never heard of them either. Well, there's your answers and a little research wouldn't hurt either... I'm an ass I know
Lincoln Park Binny's...Goose Island-Clybourn brewpub is right across the street if you want to grab a barrel aged beer and some food before...they also have a large tap room on the other side of the building at Binny's. But otherwise, Capone's or Fischman's which are within 10 minutes of each other drive wise...I boycott Beer Temple...anybody who posts pictures of empty bottles stating "open for tasting" is too full of shit for me to buy from....I'd rather go to Capone's and have a bomber handed to me to drink out of by myself...
If possible, you should hit up Revolution's Oktoberfest party on 10/3. No Pipeworks but it's a solid event.
Thanks everyone. I wasn't sure how difficult the Pipeworks beers were to get. We will be most likely driving through on 294 up to visit some friends near the Wis. border. I would love to get my hands on the Raspberry abduction and some of their IPA's Thanks for the help!
I was at Binny's in Lincoln Park on Friday (the best one, in my opinion), and they had about 7 or 8 different Pipeworks beers, including Raspberry Truffle Abduction. You should have no problem at least finding something you like. Marilime Lime also just hit, and that's an interesting one to check out. Definitely give Lincoln Park a shot, and check out their awesome taproom. Other than that, I always recommend checking out the Beer Temple and West Lakeview Liquors; I'm sure they'll have plenty of Pipeworks there too, and the people at both places are friendly as knowledgeable. Enjoy your trip!
Pipeworks isn't available in northern Illinois, McHenry county anyway, so I'd grab some closer to Chicago if possible.
The Beer Cellar in Glen Ellyn has the best PW selection I've seen. Or if you want somewhere closer to 294 check Sals in elmhurst or ardmore station in villa park. Too many people think Binnys is the only place that sells craft beer so they sell out much quicker than most of the smaller places.
Just FYI that is not true, Chris puts out Whales for tasting constantly, never charges hype tax and always sells beer on a first come first served basics. He even puts "out of distro stuff" on the shelves like Heady, Pliny and Dark Lord and gives them out for free. He will even personally offer you a free bottle of out of distro beer just because you said you have been wanting to try it in a conversation. Oh and lets not forget the anniversary party where all he asked that you donate 10 bucks to charity for unlimited beer that he paid for. Really not trying to thread jack, but the Chicago Beer scene is a better place because of Chris, The Beer Temple and his share the wealth, hording is bad mentality. I'll end the post before I start to rant and get off the point I was trying to make. Every Chicago Visit should include a trip to Kumas or Hot Dougs and more Importantly Beer Temple.
I'm hopefully checking out the beer temple myself this weekend. I'd rather shop there regardless of selection than a Binny's if I can.
9 times out of 10 the bottle open for tasting isnt available to be sold in chicago, so thats a small business owner opening his own supply of beer FROM HIS OWN POCKET to share with fellow patrons. Last time I checked this is a site for beer advocates and not beer hoarders, so I and probably 99.99% of the folks on here are grateful some kind shop owner shares FOR FREE stuff I don't have access too. Also sometimes, he even throws one of the rare ass beers that isnt available for sale on chicago on the shelf and prices them $0.00. So again, not only does he share beer not available and talk beer to you but he will even give you a bomber for free. I'm amazed that someone somewhere, could be against that. It almost hurts my brain to understand how someone could be anti-beer temple, thats like being anti-kindness and anti-humanity.
I'm interested in the story too. It's likely a BT twitter update went out with what was open for a tasting & by the time the poster got there the bottle was empty from other people tasting it in the interim. Oh the horror. Like was said well above. Chris shares a lot of things which aren't in this market. If he has a bottle of Pliny open, he's not gonna have a case of it sitting there to share all day.
