I've never been this far away from the US, but going to Dublin, Ireland next week. Any places I should check out (aside from Guinness) or bottles of note I should look for? I get a free check bag so would maybe bring something back too if there's anything of note at bottle shops. Thanks!

    My favs are

    Porterhouse Temple Bar
    L. Mulligan Grocer
    57 The Headline
    W. J. Kavanagh's
Any Galway Bay Brewery Pub (Against the Grain, Brewdock, Black Sheep and more)

Places I've been to on a map here

I'm not a bring home a bottle person (I bring my beer home internally  ) but I'm sure others will have suggestions.

Also, it has been a year since I was last in Dublin so things may have changed.

One of my favorite pubs is O'Neill's on Pearse St, it's sort of 2 pubs in one. And the Brazenhead is a must visit, the oldest pub in Dublin. Beyond them, it's difficult to walk around Dublin and not find a pub to enjoy.

Got good bar suggestions there. For offlicenses, check redmonds of ranelagh, baggot street wines, drinkstore(is the best and beside l.mulligan grocer).

Should be able to get some good belgian and uk beers. Keep an eye out for brewdog abstrakt beers, expensive but v interesting.

also the porterhouse bars are quite good

I found Galway to be better for craft beer, though there was nothing that I felt compelled to bring back with me. We abandoned the craft beer game after our day 1 visit to Porterhouse (expensive, fine but not all that) and didn't regret it slightly. If there was something craft available on tap I would give it a try, but I didn't want to experiment with potentially very, very old bottles of beer since the demand is relatively low.

Definitely Galway. Hit the Salt House. Then go up Quay St to Fine Wines.

There's nothing in drogheda, and buying bottles in bars will be a rip off. Galway is pretty good as mentioned
