Hey all.. I'm going to be in Okemos for a couple days next week and I want to bring some beers home with me. I've researched a few spots and a few beers i'm looking for...Any suggestions would be sweet.

Here's a few stores I've called so far... Any others?

    Big 10 party store
    Vine & Brew
    Toms
    Whole Foods
    On the rocks

I really dig BA stouts and Quads so any local suggestions on those would be awesome. Is there any chance I could find some Backwoods Bastards anywhere? I would guess not but I do tend to get lucky with places like Whole Foods hiding stuff in the back..

    Thanks alot

That list should cover all things available in MI. Probably no backwoods left in town.

Vine & Brew has a fantastic selection and probably the best prices of those listed above. The Meijer grocery store in Okemos has a surprisingly really good selection as well.

Depending on the time you have, Ellison brewery should have their cans available to go, and Old Nation in Williamston (about 10 minutes east of Okemos) are great stops as well. Old Nation's M-43 is one of the best IPAs going right now in MI. They may not have cans for sale but they always have it on tap

The only BA beer that I can think of that might still be found on store shelves is Arcadia's Shipwreck Porter. It typically goes for around $8-$9 for a 12-oz. bottle, but it's a great beer.

Brewery Vivant is a Grand Rapids based brewery....good selection of MI-only Belgians. They should be readily available at all the stores you mentioned

So I called and talked to guy at a store in Lansing, can't remember the name, Hoskas?? I wrote it down at work, anyways, he's gonna bring me a bottle of backwoods bastards from his personal stash...Score! Now I need to figure out what I can bring him for a proper thanks

Maybe Horrocks? They have a huge selection and a pretty nice growler station as well. You can drink while you grocery shop!

Also worth checking out Crunchy's tap list. They usually have a good selection and fill crowlers

Oades Big Ten just started a four tap growler fill station about two weeks ago. They had Backwoods Bastard on tap then but I'm sure they blew through it by now.

You can't go wrong with Ellison. They brew great stouts and IPAs. They posted on facebook that they are charging $12 for all four packs and growler fills this upcoming American Craft Beer week. I recommend trying all of their beers and then buying the cans you like. Definitely sample that barrel aged scotch ale though. They aged that scotch ale in an Ardbeg scotch barrel. I dig it but it's not for everyone.

I will second that you can find some gems in the Okemos Meijer store.

I will also second that you are close enough to Williamston that it would be worth a phone call to Old Nation to see if they have any M-43 on tap or in cans. I haven't had very many NE style IPAs but that has been my clear favorite so far.

Happy hunting. Let us know what you find.

Oades Big Ten has the best supply. They are the oldest. Their margins are huge, so students don't buy it.
Meijer is the place for cheap in stock beer. It sells out though.

I might need to see if theres a fed ex in okomos.. The most I've ever fit in my suitcase was

    5-Bravos
    2-BCBS
    4-3 Philosophers
    1-Abyss
    2-Prarie Bombs
    1-jug of Sophie

    and I was sketched ... I have a feeling I may top that load : o

If you have a car and are willing to take a day trip to Grand Rapids, Founders had A LOT left in their coolers.

As of last weekend, Founders had 750's of KBS in stock. Founders Doom has been dropping in stores over the last week. Seems like I've seen Backwoods recently (not in E.L. area though) - maybe it was in the Battle Creek area.

I ship out of the Fedex on Michigan Avenue just north of MSU campus. They have great hours which makes it really convenient.

If what you're looking for is backwoods, I know of a handful of guys that could help you out with that. We'd be happy to meet you at Ellison or Old Nation.

I think you have a list of the go to stores: Vine and Brew, Tom's Party Store, Oades Big 10, Okemos Big 10, Horrock's, Okemos Meijer, Dusty's Cellar, On the Rocks.

Do check out Crunchy's in East Lansing for taps and bottles/cans; they also do some beer to go. For example, they currently have Wizard Burial Ground in cans.

If you don't know how to get to Ann Arbor from Lansing it's East until you smell it and then South until you step in it.

I kid. Spent 7-8 years in Ann Arbor and loved every bit of it. Well except Immunology...

I miss Oade's Big Ten. :/ my go to when I first got into craft beer back in 2006. I have nothing to offer other than go to Big Ten on Jolly or Ellison Brewing or both?

I second this. Somehow I didn't see this thread before, but if you are looking for anything specific OP, hit us up. We are all in the area, and probably have some of what you are looking for, like Backwoods, Dark Horse BBpt5, Oddsides Rye Hipster or Hipster or Hazels. If any of those Bravos or other beers would travel here with you, I am sure we can accommodate you.

Got to Old Nation, Ellison, and Vine and Brew, and you'll be good.

    Here's what I scored

    4 pack doom
    4 pack Sumatra

1 backwoods bastard (thanks Nate at Horrocks,,,,your a f'n champ!)
1 Thirsty Dog Wulver...real excited to try this
    1 Deschutes 2016 Black Butte 26
4 Central Water Bourbon Barrel Stout
    4 Ellison Islay Scoth ales
    1 Scotch on Scotch
    2 Boulevard bourbon barrel quads

I think I forgot one....Must be in the FED boxes set to arrive Tuesday...Anyways, thanks again all for the great tips and suggestions. I 'll post a pic once I get hooked up on a hosting site.

I'm super excited to start drinking some of these bad Oscars. I sure wish I could have made it Founders in after seeing what Sparty93 and strohme2 posted...ugh. maybe next time
