I'm heading to the extreme SE GA coast next week for work. I'll be in the small portion of GA coast between SC and FL. I'm wandering might be "close-ish" that would be worth the drive. The only thing I've come up with is Aardworlf in Jacksonville, FL. I'm not sure that's worth the drive if that ends up being the only thing I visit. I do know that Westbrook would be a pretty decent detour (coming from Cincinnati), so I know that is an option.

Also, I'm BIG into scenic drives. SO, if there's a route from Cincinnati you'd take over the 2 obvious routes, or if you'd recommend going through Charleston just to take a senic drive down the coast, or anything else, I am all ears!

I haven’t been in a couple of years but Savannah used to have a decent number of restaurants/bars with pretty good tap lists. I reviewed the Places I visited here on BA.

I can 2nd the Crystal Beer Parlor in Savannah. Good food and good beer selection. Just peaked at their current tap list and they have a nice diverse selection right now.

Scenic drive: If you really want to do a scenic drive, pickup up US Hwy 411 from Knoxville, TN to Sevierville,TN down to Cherokee, NC. Then you can pick up US Hwy 19 & 74 to get back over to I -40 West of Asheville, NC. That route takes you right through the Great Smoky Mountain National Park. But fair warning, it is a winding, twisting road! Great time of year to do that route. The leaves may not be quite changing yet, but it's still beautiful.

    Safe travels and cheers!

Crystal Beer Parlor was definitely my favorite spot - food was very good each time we have stopped in there and usually the tap list is very solid and has a lot of GA breweries represented.

Definitely don't miss Southern Swells if you go to Jax. Reve is also about 5 minutes away from Swells.

Thanks for all the replies. I know that I haven't replied, but I do appreciate it.

I'm high-risk, and although vaccinated still being very cautious, so I don't intend to really sit down anyplace. That obviously makes this a bit more difficult. (Although, I did sit down at one place recently because there was something on that I couldn't refuse, and I just lifted my mask up for each sip over about 40 minutes.) Hoping there are good things to-go!

Buddy, your mask does nothing. It is all theater. If you are vaxxed go live your life and sit in a place. Enjoy the beers.

I'm late to the party here but Fernandina Beach has several good options and you cant get much closer to the GA line than there.

Piggybacking here. I’m headed to Fernandina Beach in a couple of weeks. What places do your recommend? Is the ABC my best to-go option for my stay?

I'm not much help on the liquor stores as I do most of my drinking at the bars and breweries in Fernadiana.

ABC is probably a good spot as I have used them in other locations also try Amelia Liquor Store.

The breweries would be a good spot to grab beer as well!

Thanks for the prompt reply. Any recommendations on breweries?
I’ll have the littles with me, so my outings are limited.

I'm still following this with hopes that I'll be returning to the area sometime this summer. Glad this is useful for others as well.

I would think both First Love Brewing and the Amelia Island Tavern would be good options with kids. I have not been to Mocama so cant say either way (but have had their beers and they are good).

If you have a break from the kiddos, go to PJDs (Small but fantastic beer selection and really nice owners) and the Green Turtle. The Turtle is great with live entertainment most nights of the week. Also worth a try is the Salty Pelican and the Boat House.

World Of Beers, Two locations. One down town Savannah (beer only) one in Pooler (beer and good gastropub food). Just hit a bran new brewery in Port Royal S.C. Shellring Ale Works. Excellent!!! Great seafood restaurant next door.
