My first trip to Germany is coming up and I was just looking for some reccommendations on what to bring back to the states as far as beer. I appreciate any input or suggestions you could offer. Thanks in advance
Are you there the whole time or will you be traveling? I ask because German beer retail is very local-focused, so it's hard to make a recommendation like Kneitinger, Keesman, or Uerige when you might not have those available to you in Bad Naueheim. If you have time, I'd recommend a trip to Düsseldorf to pick up Uerige, Füchschen, Schumacher (1 liter bottles only) and Schlussel. Also a trip to Miltenberg to get Faust goodies like their Dopplebock, Schwarzviertler Dunkel, Hefeweizen (Hell and Dunkel), and Whiskey Barrel Aged Eisbock. Frankfurt (and environs) is a fairly notorious beer-desert, but there are specialty beer stores in Darmstadt (and Bonn apparently) that might have some goodies.
Haha... I used to live in Bad Nauheim.... It's been a while, maybe @boddhitree has some current suggestions, but unfortunately, it's a beer wasteland. If you find the Bosch (Laasphe) beers, that might be an option, even the Pfungstaedter, Welde or Schmucker beers might have something interesting for you. I'm sure you can also get Rothaus in the meantime, which is great when fresh. Otherwise, you will see mostly Licher and the other major brewers in/around Bad Nauheim.
There is nuttin beer-wise in Bad Nauheim. In Oberursel there's the Oberursel Brauhaus for some really fresh Gean beers, in FfM you got Naïv, which got a shipment of Victory's Hop Devil and it's slowly increasing it's stock of German craftbrews. Braustil's also a great micro-brewery that I love. If you're looking for Belgians, at least the big Brewers, Le Belge restaurant is good. If you're looking for good German beers, order from the Internet. Ok, that's done. Now I'll go back in hiding. BTW, I've been drinking lots of good beer lately I'm getting at Naïv's bottleshop.
