Hey BAs, I'm planning a trip in late August to Hill Farmstead. I was wondering if anyone had any advice on a nice, affordable, relatively close place to say near the brewery. Any other advice that could help my trip would be appreciated. Cheers!
We stay here whenever we head to VT http://www.stowecabins.com/. Not that close but a nice drive A little $$ but quite and close to Waterbury and Montpelier
The owner of Stowe Cabins is a stand up guy, and the place is really nice! I definitely wouldn't say it's close but it not too bad of a drive. I know there's a couple inns/b&b's right in town there, but I don't know what they are called, nor have I heard any reviews of them, good or bad.
I got an amazon deal today for a place in Lyndonville (~30 miles from HF) http://local.amazon.com/boston-metrowest/B008PGJTD0 I don't know anything about the place but it's a closer/cheaper option than Montpelier/Stowe and the reviews on google seemed positive. You can buy multiple vouchers for consecutive night stays but they can only be used Sunday-Thursday.
The Lake View Inn, right in the village of Greensboro is small and nice. Owner is with VT Institute of Artisanal Cheesemaking at Univ. of VT.
I like this thread as I am trying to plan a similar trip. Is it possible to do HF and Alchemist within the same weekend? Or is Alchemist usually a miss on weekends and the only day to get Heady is canning days (Mon and Thurs.)?
Heady is usually in stock thurs-saturday (as well as earlier in the week, lately being sold out on wednesdays though), and sometimes sunday morning. It's totally possible to do them both in the same weekend.
I think they said that they have been selling out by Sunday and sometimes late Saturday. I'd hit that place first on a weekend trip or find a retailer that carries it (it usually lasts longer in stores).
Just got back last week from Stowe. We got there Monday and hit the Alchemist first for a case of Heady. It is a nice drive to Hill Farmstead from Stowe. Definitely hit the Warren store Friday morning for Lawsons. Hit the Reservoir, Blackback, and Prohibition Pig for Hill Farmstead and Lawsons on tap in Waterbury. Had a great time.
I may just replicate this. Was this a day trip? I live in the Hartford area so I'll need a place for my wife/DD to get some rest.
Stowe has about a billion options. Check out Tripadvisor reviews - most places are totally fine, so just find something in your price range that doesn't sound horrible and you'll be fine. You don't really want to be much closer to HF than Stowe, unless you are really planning on spending a lot of time getting growler fills at the brewery.
My girlfriend, a buddy, and myself completed a Vermont circuit during the Fourth of July weekend. We drove up the night of the fourth and stayed over in Burlington. We hit up several places the next day, including the Alchemist. We ended our day in Hardwick at the Village Motel, hoping to be as close to Hill Farmstead as possible so we could hit it up first thing the next day. I DO NOT recommend this place! I was hoping it was better than the reviews led me to believe (supposedly new management as of last summer), but alas it was not. The whole place was a bit run down and the room smelled like cat pee. Pretty expensive for what it was.
It's not often mentioned, but I think Rock Art and Lost Nation are both on the direct route between HF and the Alchemist. Also, Von Trapp in Stowe is not that far off the route either.
The Crop Bistro & Brewery is also in Stowe. Besides the big 3 (Alchemist, Lawsons, HF), there's Rock Art, Lost Nation, Trapp, and The Crop along Vermont's "IPA Highway".
