Going on vacation next week down to PA from Massachusetts. Any beers I should truly be in the look out for down there. Also planning on hitting up a couple of Breweries near Allentown. Thanks for you help! Cheers
If Pizza Boy distributes around there I would be on the lookout for some of their cans and bottles from their other brewery Intangible Ales. Weyerbacher is right near Allentown over in Easton and is a nice stop. Any of the others I would recommend are brewery only and not really near Allentown unless you plan on driving around the state. You will be a little over an hour away from the Philly area which has some great breweries. anything in particular style wise you are looking for?
Weywrbacher is already a planned stop for sure. A couple other random breweries I've found as well. Probably won't make it to Philly this trip but I have been there for beer. Not a lot of driving mostly sticking to eastern part of the state, I'll have a 6 month old in tow. No preference style wise
Two Rivers is a short ride from Weyerbacher and has some killer food. The beer isn't terrible either.
Yeah, Yuengling a is very cool tour. There's a ton of brewing history there and the old lagering [and prohibition smuggling] caves are open. It's well worth the trip.
Funk Brewing in Emmaus (a couple miles south of Allentown) is worth checking out. They make some good brews, even a few the locals line up for on release days.
Bethlehem n Allentown Brew works are great. Also Lost Tavern in hellertown n Bonn Place Brewing in Bethlehem just opened and gave good beer. Bottle shop wise; Cork n Caged in Allentown, Abes in Bethlehem, n Wegmans on Tilghman st are the places to go
Meh, I'd skip over Yuengling. The owner is a billionaire who spends his money trying to screw over working Pennsylvanians.
Depending on your route, there are some good ones of 81 going south; Conyngham and Breaker. Covered Bridge in Shamokin, Berwick (in Berwick), and more in the Danville/Bloomsburg area are very good. Red Castle in Lehighton is a nice drive from Allentown, if that's your base of operations. Let us know how it all worked out!
