I stopped into Peekskill on Sunday the 1st on my way to Vermont. The place was nice, there was a good amount of people but the place wasn't packed, at least downstairs. I started with their Simple Sour and was really underwhelmed. There just wasn't anything that made it jaw-dropping though perhaps that's why it is called simple? Then I tried their Amazeballs and the name is very appropriate. Great beer. Lastly I tried their Eastern Standard and it was a solid beer. I really liked the place.

The bartender was absolutely fantastic and knew the beers inside and out. A husband and wife came up to the bar and ordered a Bud Light and Blue Moon. I was dumbfounded but without missing a beat he recommended two of their beers and described them for the couple. They took his recommendation. I talked with him a bit after they had left and commented on how awesome it was that he was ready with suggestions immediately. I got my bill and he had very nicely charged me for one pint.

The growlers are higher priced than I would have preferred to pay but you know that going in. If it is too much then don't get them. Pretty easy solution to a known problem IMO.

Prices for glasses of beer are fine, and the quality of beer is better than anywhere else in the state of NY. Not trying to start a debate with this, but mainly because I don't think it's debatable.

I too am unhappy about the price increases for growlers, guess I will just have to do more of my drinking with friends at the Pub.

Oh, and I was there yday with some really nice BA's from Atlanta, and the new batch Higher Standard is fucking delicious.

Finally went on Saturday for a late lunch, after riding to bear mountain.

Solid food, and beer was awesome as expected.

I'll be making my second trip there this weekend -- I was really impressed the first time, and knew the general price range beforehand so it wasn't a big deal. I'm just hoping Higher Standard is still around, it wasn't available last time I was there.

It has only been on for a couple of weeks, it should be free flowing this weekend! I love that beer, awesome stuff.

It will be there, new batch is awesome. Hope you're not attached to either an arm or a leg if you want a growler of it though.

Agreed on the prices for pints/glasses at the brewpub - a touch high maybe, but definitely no real issue given the quality.

The growler prices are bonkers though. I get up there once a month or so and usually fill a few growlers, but I've also been enjoying the beers from Newburgh recently, and they are far more reasonable. I think I'll be skipping out on Peekskill in favor of Newburgh during my next few trips, and just stick with the occasional Peekskill pint when I see it at my local.

Didn't want to start a whole new thread. Me and the girlfriend are planning a weekend trip in a few weeks for our anniversary. All she cares about is that she gets a nice dinner out of the deal so I thought of a trip up to Peekskill. I was thinking of adventuring around Bear Mountain and hitting up the brewery. Any reccomendations for hotels and places to eat. Steak or Italian are two things she is always happy with. She isn't a beer drinker so I dont want to make the brewery the main attraction so any other ideas would be great. Thanks!

Hi all. Anyone who is visiting the brewery soon please send me a BM. I just broke my Peekskill glass and would love to get another one. Your first round is on me

It has been noted that since the new bright and shiny place in Brooklyn opened up that this thread has suffered from neglect! So, giving this a bump as I am guilty of this. As soon as Higher Standard comes back will be pointing myself North for a day instead of southwest .

I've been to both. Other half is closer but if I had to chose it would be Peekskill. I loved Other half 's All Green Everything, easily the best beer I've had in a long time....overall. The Wheatwine and Tripel were fantastic as well. Peekskill offers more diversity and pretty damn good food. I'm in the minority when saying I enjoy Peekskills hoppier offerings over Other Halfs. They are both excellent and I envy the beer lover who lives within walking distance to these breweries.

Thanks @jrnyc for bumping this. Taking a trip upstate next week and you just reminded me where I need to stop off.

really? I thought they were good but not nearly as good as Peekskill's best stuff. They have a ways to go IMO.

Was just there this past weekend. There was no higher standard and there counter pressure machine was down. But once again awesome food and tap list. Got a growler of amazeballs and eastern standard. Forgot how great standard is.

The Dream of the 90's is one of my favorite beers of 2014. Pale ale with coffee, but not coffee like a coffee stout or porter. It's amazing. If you're in Peekskill don't miss this one. Always love the food too. This is my go to stop after mountain biking at Blue.

I live 3 blocks from Other Half and would have to say IPA's i like better there, but I make a point to stop at Peekskill every time I go up that way for work. Still don't understand why Shotgun Willie doesn't get more talk. It's my favorite from them. And I like their variety better. I'm sure Other Half will have more with the upcoming winter. Looking forward to some stouts, porters, and barley wines.

Was thinking of heading up this afternoon, but their website only lists 7 beers on tap right now? In the past I thought I remembered much more. Anyone know how accurate this is?

Also, untappd check-ins is a good way to see what is current.

Ah. Didn't realize they were on BM, although that list is two weeks old. I checked out Untappd as well. Was just hoping for a more concrete list. Thanks though.

They are pretty good about keeping beer menus up to date, they usually don't update it unless list changes, so although it is dated 9/12, it is likely accurate. I use untappd to close the loop. That is as concrete as you are going to get.
