I'm probably in the minority here, but I never had a tripel I liked. I've tried du monde and a few other highly rated tripels. However, I absolutely adore BSPA's like Don De Dieu and Local 1.

I don't like anything from Unibroue. Not sure if it's their yeast strain(s) or what.

I am not a tripel lover in general, but I do love Allagash Curieux. So good.

I didn't like Golden Monkey at all either. I thought it taste like malt liquor with ground up orange flavored children's aspirin in it. I couldn't even finish the 12 pack I got.

I love a good dry tripel. Especially Westmalle's and De Glazen Toren's Ondineke Oilsjtersen. The ones who veer too much into sweet territory are not for me.

My palate for Tripels is 100% consistent with yours. IMO the 'trick' to use plenty of simple sugars in the list of fermentables and utilize a highly attenuating yeast with a proper fermentation scheme to achieve a dry-ish finish. Needless to say but Westmalle nails this.

    Cheers!

I've given up on Unibroue after finding that everything they make has too much coriander for me. No, I'm not normally super-sensitive to coriander, I just don't like it in my beer... La Fin du Monde and to a lesser degree Don de Dieu, I did find to be tolerable fresh, but as they age the coriander becomes even more prominent.

    1. I like the sweetness to them
    2. My favorite is probably the most well known in PA, Victory Golden Monkey.

I think the Tripel is one of most difficult brews to master let alone make an exceptionally well balanced one. They are so complex with light malts, high abv, spice, slight sweetness and hop bitterness, velvety body but with sharp carbonation and dry finish, plus bottle conditioning as well. There's a lot to go wrong there.

I've never been too fond of tripels. With most of them (even in the best cases), I get a very specific candy-like sweetness that's unique to the style. It's just not something I find very pleasing.

    Westmalle strikes me as definitive.

Tripel Karmeliet's spicy character makes it much more interesting and refined than other one-note attempts, but I still get that candy sweetness working underneath the spicy quality. I appreciate it's complicated malt make-up.

In a way, I'm not too surprised that La Fin Du Monde is the highest rated one here. It reminds me of how a Schwarzbier with coffee can get lots of praise. The beer packs a huge
flavor punch. For me, it's just too intense to drink too much of it. It works better at a sample size. Comparing it to Tripel Karmeliet, you can see that the range between tripels can be quite big.

I like Achel's 8 Blond if one can consider it a tripel.

On the drier side, I like Brasserie De La Senne's Jambe De Bois and the
    Slaghmuylder Witkap.

As far as American beers that one can currently grab in a store, Allagash is unsurprisingly good and I liked Troegs LaGrave.

For the left of center approaches, I like Nøgne Ø's Tiger Tripel.

Kasteel Tripel and Bornem Tripel were two of the ones I enjoyed the most. I didn't particularly enjoy Westmalle Tripel though.

Amen to La Fin Du Monde being #1. My girlfriend loves Chimay White but at $20+ a 4-pack it can get pricey. I introduced her to La Fin and she likes it better. Win, win for me.

I'll have to put a Defiant Tripel in your hands one day. It's pretty delicate and dry for the style, sort of the opposite of most domestic takes.
