I'm looking to try out yet another new style of beer. The description of tripel sounds like a style I would enjoy. I haven't tried the style at all to this point. What are some suggestions that are fairly easy to find near Green Bay Wisconsin? Just trying to get an idea where to start. Thanks in advance, Andy
If you have a good selection of Belgian imports the common standards of Chimay, Karmaleit, Westmalle, St. Bernadus should all be available. Le Fin du Monde from Unibroue is usually pretty common on the East coast here so it it ubiquitous out there? dunno. Those are good places to start.. I am a big tripel fan, probably my favorite style I love the diversity of them.
I second what Smakawhat said about La Fin Du Monde and Karmaleit. Those are some great Tripels. Go to your local liquor store and peruse around the imported section. You should be able to find some nice Belgium there. Unfortunately, it hasn't blown up with microbreweries in the US like alot of other styles.... yet.
Like others have said La Fin Du Monde is a good place to start and it's nearly half the price of the Belgians. I also really like Karmeliet but Westmalle is the classic example. I find that most American versions are generally subpar and like to stick with the Belgians or La Fin Du Monde.
My personal favorite is from Het Anker called Gouden Carolus, in fact had one last night. great stuff!
