Look, you can always show up at 4:40, but that is never necessary. I got there at 6:40 and was 132 in line, which was just fine. It was clear from the get go that this weekend would be different than most. As others have said, would it have been better to get there at 8 and get in line and still not get tickets? I can't see how. The event was handled great. Anyone who was at the Dinner release can speak to how much more organized all the VT events are...

As for the CBC, nobody was there 2.5 hours early. I drove by a little before 8 and there was no line (that I could see, maybe someone was sitting on the stairs?). I had breakfast and got in line at 9 (and got ticket number 55 once inside) and was out at 10:20 or so. A bit long but with one cashier what can you do? They were 50 tickets ahead of my number when I got back to the market but I got everything but stout so no complaints at all. Had some lunch and had another fun time in the Alchemist line before getting more great beer and getting out of town.

For me, just another great trip and loved the chance to meet up with other BA's (BoldRulerVermont, youbrewidrink, JArmour15 and Phil (still can't find your damn username on here!).

It's beer people! Go, talk and hang out and have fun! I know I did. And I thank those who made it fun for me.

I agree 100% with the "it's beer people" view on things. For me and I think a few other BAs that means enjoying the beer, food, scenery, and people in VT in a different way than those who went up this weekend. To each their own.

CBC posted a tweet from someone who delivered pickles and snapped a photo around 8-8:30 and there was a line down the street. Maybe it was later than 8:30?

    My thoughts on this weekend:

Got to Mad Taco at 6:35am and thought it was handled as well as possible--save for the line snaking in some questionable directions. Line really ballooned around that time--friend ~75th at 6:30am, I was 108 at 6:35am, BigStein88 said 132 at 6:40am. Def was not a shitshow as someone earlier asserted.

In general, crowds were way smaller than I anticipated: plenty of room at Res and Pro Pig today, as well as 3PT last night; line not ludicrous at Lawsons, and they moved expeditiously at farmers market; line was way long at Alchemist sale, but moved quickly once past the sample station (nice to see Mr Kimmich on the front lines there).

Waitsfield farmers market is a fine time, and definitely worth checking out. Lots of yummy cheeses, jams, foodstuffs to sample and buy.

I believe Civil Disobedience 6 kicked the fastest--3-5 minutes at Reservoir is what I heard. Barkeep said Damon went quickly at Pro Pig. (Blackback shut down before I could get in there.)

Beer highlights: Birth of Tragedy 2012 at Res was the best I had; Birth of Tragedy 2013 at Pro Pig notsomuch. Marked difference. Sip of Sunshine at 3PT and Mad Taco. HF Norma and Focal Banger.

Piecasso makes a decent pie; slow bar service, however.

All in all, another great weekend in VT.

I can certainly appreciate that. I, too, enjoy things in the way you are talking about. But sometimes I enjoy a little madness as well!

Certainly could have been anytime after 8 as I didn't get back that way until 9 and there was certainly a line then. Seeing some other posts it looks like I could have just gotten Heady in Waitsfield but I had time to kill so no loss.

I walked out of line for 4 minutes around 740am and was not given a ticket, just a dumb face and an "I'm sorry." At least 6 people could have told you that i was there since 630. Instead of ~140, I ended up with 304. Luckily, the people around me in line, a Vermont couple and a fellow New Jerseyan, were kind enough to help me out. I gave my ticket to a local who didn't know about the Mad Taco set up.

The line did blow up rather quickly when I got there at 6:30 and I saw george show up at 6:40 and was approximately 50 people behind me.

The last line from George really nailed it for me, it's about having a great time, meeting new people who love what you love and hopefully taking some great tasting beers home.

Cross my experience posting from the HF thread:

I completely understand where @@ajfa531, @@WILSON_forbin and others are coming from. I love Lawson's beer and used this holiday weekend for my first visit to Waitsfield's market. I left the Boston area around 4:30am and arrived around 7:50 to a chaotic scene, not the orderly line I anticipated. @@youbrewidrink's assurance that "no tickets will be handed out prior to 8am," just added to the confusion and feelings (however false) of being "screwed over."

Don't get me wrong, I underestimated demand and that's my fault. I am also extremely grateful to have met the local VT beer advocate who gave me his #274-275 tickets so that I could at least get some Triple Sunshine, but then the scene at Waitsfield Market just added to the confusion. How are we supposed to know what number is called if we are told to stay away from the table? I arrived almost an hour prior to my scheduled time and my number was already passed! Not that it would have mattered at #274, but I understand where feelings of resentment are coming from, especially when you compare this experience to the one at Alchemist's truck sale that afternoon. Over there I didn't have to line up at the crack of dawn to be guaranteed beer, and I only had to stand in a single line until purchase. This line had music, plenty of raffle giveaways, free food, and free samples of a one-of-a-kind blend poured by John K. himself! Somebody even lost their wallet in line and the brewery offered a free tour to 6 people if it were found. That's going above and beyond, and gives the impression that the brewery actually cares about its customers, rather than a "Soup ****" vibe. Thank you @@JenKimmich and everyone at Alchemist for the awesome experience!

All that being said, Triple Sunshine is amazing, I had a great time this weekend, had plenty of the most incredible beer in the world and met a lot of awesome people. Vermont is by far my favorite state and I can't wait to go there again. Cheers!

Everyone is entitled to their opinion, and in my opinion, you are way out of line. First off, the line was not "chaotic". In fact it was quite orderly. I have been to many of these farmers markets and even with the number of people present, found it to be just as orderly and well run as ever. I arrived a little before 6 am cause I knew there would a lot people. The time in line flew by thanks to great conversation with the awesome BAs around us. Yes they did hand out tickets early, but that was after more people were in line than tickets available. No sense in making folks stand around just for the sake of it. It was a great idea to hand out the tickets at the Mad Taco to keep the crowds away from the farmers market so the regular vendors would be able to set up. Perhaps if you gave a little thought to the logistics involved with something like this, you would better understand why they did it this way. To expect music and prizes at the crack of dawn is nuts. Once they started selling beer, they did move right along. The market is small enough that you can wonder around, enjoy what the other vendors are selling and still keep an eye on what number is up, just walk by the booth every so often. I have gotten to know some of the other vendors, and they all have great stuff for sale. Learn from your experience and please don't ask what time you should get in line next time.

I didn't get to see the line when I arrived at 7:50, reread my post.
Agreed that the other vendors have great stuff for sale at the market.
I never asked what time to get in line, I think you've got me confused with someone else.

You would have had to if the Alchemist sale was in the morning and the Lawson's sale was in the afternoon. The entire reason you didn't was because everyone later in line for the Alchemist sale was earlier in the Lawson's line/at HF/etc. But yes, definitely worth blaming Lawson's for that.

man am I with the "it's just beer" crowd. VT is cool, I'll head up this summer to do some hiking and I ski in the winter but the idea of waking up early and waiting in line at 6am to buy (or maybe not buy!) a couple beers...no appeal at all to me. I guess that's my prevailing attitude as I get older, the # of things I'll actually stand in line to do is...a very small list!
